Fastum 2.5% Gel

As an over-the-counter topical gel, Fastum 2.5% Gel is meant for use on intact, non-broken skin over a specific painful area rather than as a treatment for widespread or internal pain.

Apply a thin layer of Fastum 2.5% Gel to the affected area and gently massage it in until absorbed, usually 2 to 3 times a day or as directed on the label. Wash hands thoroughly after application unless the hands themselves are being treated, and avoid covering the treated area with an airtight dressing unless a doctor or pharmacist has advised doing so. Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, rashes, or eyes and mucous membranes.

For adults and adolescents over 12 years, a thin strip of gel (roughly matching the size of the painful area) is applied to the skin 2 to 3 times daily, not exceeding the maximum frequency stated on the packaging. Treatment is generally intended for short-term use, typically up to 7 days, and a doctor should be consulted if pain does not improve or worsens within this period.

Fastum 2.5% Gel is generally stable until the expiry date printed on the tube and carton when stored correctly. Do not use the product after this date.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap replaced tightly after each use. Keep out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use if the tube has been damaged or contamination is suspected.

• Known hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, other NSAIDs (including aspirin), or any ingredient in the gel
• History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions triggered by NSAIDs
• Application to broken skin, open wounds, infected skin, or eczema
• Use on the eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes
• Third trimester of pregnancy, due to class effects of NSAIDs, unless advised by a doctor
• Exposure of the treated area to direct sunlight or UV light during and shortly after treatment

• Other topical or oral NSAIDs — avoid using together to prevent excessive NSAID exposure
• Photosensitising medicines, which may increase the risk of skin reactions when combined with sun exposure
• Oral anticoagulants — caution advised if used over large areas or for long periods, discuss with a doctor or pharmacist if relevant
• No specific food interactions, as absorption is primarily local through the skin

• Apply only to intact skin over the painful area, never to open wounds or broken skin
• Wash your hands after applying, unless treating the hands themselves
• Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds on the treated area during use and for a couple of weeks afterward to reduce photosensitivity risk
• Do not use an occlusive (airtight) bandage over the gel unless advised by a healthcare professional
• Stop use and see a doctor if pain persists beyond a week or skin irritation develops

Topical NSAID gels such as Fastum 2.5% Gel are generally preferred for localised muscle and joint pain when a person wants to avoid the gastrointestinal side effects more commonly associated with oral NSAID tablets, though the same class of drug interactions and precautions broadly apply, particularly regarding sun exposure and use in sensitive individuals. It is intended for short-term symptomatic relief, and ongoing or worsening pain should be assessed by a doctor rather than treated indefinitely with the gel alone.
