Overview

Lasix 40mg Tablet contains furosemide 40mg, a potent loop diuretic used to treat fluid retention (oedema) associated with heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease, and to manage high blood pressure in some patients. It works quickly to reduce excess fluid in the body.

Furosemide acts on the loop of Henle in the kidney, blocking the reabsorption of sodium, chloride, and water. This increases urine production, which reduces fluid overload, eases swelling, and lowers blood pressure.

How it Works

Furosemide inhibits the Na-K-2Cl cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, preventing reabsorption of sodium, potassium, and chloride back into the bloodstream. This leads to a marked increase in urine output (diuresis), reducing circulating fluid volume and relieving oedema.

Directions for Use

Take Lasix 40mg Tablet in the morning, or as directed by your doctor, to avoid needing to urinate frequently during the night. It can be taken with or without food. If a second daily dose is prescribed, take it in the early afternoon rather than in the evening.

Dosage

The dose of Lasix 40mg Tablet is individualised based on your condition and response, commonly starting around 20-40mg once daily and adjusted by your doctor as needed, sometimes taken more than once a day. Your doctor will set the dose that controls your fluid retention while monitoring your kidney function and electrolytes.
