Overview

Magurol 4mg Tablet contains Doxazosin 4mg (as doxazosin mesilate) and is available as a tablet. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for Magurol 4mg Tablet are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Take Magurol 4mg Tablet once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Your doctor may specifically advise taking the first dose, or a dose after an increase, at bedtime while lying down, because of the risk of dizziness on standing shortly after starting or increasing the dose.

Dosage

Treatment with Magurol 4mg Tablet is usually started at a low dose (often 1mg) and increased gradually by your doctor over several weeks up to a maintenance dose, which may be 4mg once daily or higher depending on your response – never start at the 4mg dose without your doctor’s specific instruction, as gradual titration reduces the risk of a sudden drop in blood pressure.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Swelling in the legs or feet (edema)
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Low blood pressure, especially when standing up quickly

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to doxazosin, other quinazolines, or any ingredient in this product
  • History of postural hypotension
  • Micturition syncope (fainting associated with urination)
  • Combined use with PDE5 inhibitors (e.g. sildenafil) requires caution due to additive blood-pressure-lowering effects

Drug / Food Interactions

  • PDE5 inhibitors (e.g. sildenafil, tadalafil) may cause a significant additive drop in blood pressure when combined with doxazosin
  • Other blood pressure medicines and diuretics may increase the risk of low blood pressure
  • NSAIDs may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect of doxazosin
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking, particularly other medicines for the prostate, blood pressure, or erectile dysfunction

Quick Tips

  • Be especially cautious with the first dose and after any dose increase – the ‘first-dose effect’ can cause marked dizziness or fainting on standing
  • Consider taking your first dose, or a dose after an increase, at bedtime while lying down, as advised by your doctor
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying down, especially first thing in the morning
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you
  • Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for cataract surgery, as doxazosin can affect the eye during the procedure
