Overview

Saxenda Flextouch 6mg/ml Pre-filled Pen is a prescription-only medicine (POM) presented as a medicine, with Liraglutide 6mg/mL (pre-filled pen) as its active ingredient content.

This page is limited to product, safety and handling information, in line with Malaysian rules on prescription medicine information for the public. Your prescriber or pharmacist is the right source for anything beyond that, together with the leaflet inside the pack.

Through DoctorOnCall, this product is supplied after an online consultation with a licensed doctor and a valid prescription, and it is checked by a registered pharmacist before dispensing. Take it exactly as prescribed, and speak to your doctor before stopping, changing the dose, or starting any other medicine alongside it.

Directions for Use

Inject subcutaneously into the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen, once daily at any time, independent of meals, but at approximately the same time each day. Rotate the injection site with each dose. Follow the pen manufacturer’s instructions for priming and dialling the correct dose, and never share your pen with another person, even if the needle is changed.

Dosage

Treatment is started at a low dose and gradually increased over several weeks, following a specific titration schedule set by your doctor, up to the target maintenance dose. This gradual increase helps reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Do not increase your dose faster than instructed, and do not exceed the maximum dose your doctor has prescribed.

Storage Instructions

Store unopened pens in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C); do not freeze. Once in use, the pen can be kept at room temperature below 30°C or in a refrigerator for the period stated in the product leaflet, away from direct heat and light, and should then be discarded.

Side Effects

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Headache
  • Decreased appetite
  • Indigestion or upset stomach
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Injection site irritation

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to liraglutide
  • Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Severe gastrointestinal disease, including gastroparesis

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Insulin or sulfonylureas – combined use in patients who also have diabetes increases the risk of hypoglycaemia and may require dose adjustment
  • Oral medicines that require rapid gastric absorption – liraglutide slows stomach emptying and may affect their absorption timing
  • Warfarin – closer monitoring of clotting levels may be advised when starting or adjusting liraglutide
  • Inform your doctor of all other medicines you are taking before starting treatment

Quick Tips

  • Follow the dose escalation schedule exactly as prescribed to reduce nausea and other gastrointestinal side effects
  • Rotate injection sites to prevent lumps or skin changes (lipodystrophy)
  • Seek prompt medical attention for severe or persistent abdominal pain, which could indicate pancreatitis
  • Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and any side effects
