Overview

Telfast-D Tablet is a combination medicine containing fexofenadine hydrochloride, a non-sedating antihistamine, and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, a nasal decongestant. It is used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) when both nasal congestion and allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose are present.

Fexofenadine blocks H1 histamine receptors to relieve sneezing, itching, and runny nose, while pseudoephedrine narrows swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages to relieve nasal congestion, giving combined relief of allergy and congestion symptoms.

How it Works

Fexofenadine selectively blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors without significantly crossing into the brain, reducing allergy symptoms with minimal sedation, while pseudoephedrine stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in nasal blood vessels, causing them to constrict and reducing nasal swelling.

Directions for Use

Take Telfast-D Tablet with a glass of water, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole – do not crush or chew it. Avoid taking this medicine close to bedtime if you find the decongestant component keeps you awake.

Dosage

The usual adult dose is one tablet twice daily. Your doctor will confirm the appropriate dose and duration based on your symptoms and any other conditions you may have, such as high blood pressure.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Telfast-D Tablet used for?

Telfast-D Tablet is used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever. These symptoms may include sneezing, an itchy or runny nose, and nasal congestion. It contains an antihistamine to help relieve allergy symptoms and a decongestant to help reduce nasal blockage.

How does Telfast-D Tablet work?

Telfast-D Tablet combines two active components with different actions. Fexofenadine is an antihistamine that helps block the effects of histamine, a substance involved in allergic reactions, thereby reducing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. The decongestant component works by constricting swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages, helping to relieve nasal congestion.

Does Telfast-D Tablet cause drowsiness?

Fexofenadine generally has a low tendency to cause drowsiness compared with some older antihistamines. However, individual responses can vary. The decongestant component may also cause restlessness, nervousness, or difficulty sleeping in some people. If you experience these effects, avoid activities requiring full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.

Can I take Telfast-D Tablet if I have high blood pressure?

Use Telfast-D Tablet with caution if you have high blood pressure. The decongestant component may increase blood pressure or cause cardiovascular effects in some people. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you have hypertension, heart disease, or other cardiovascular conditions.

What are the common side effects of Telfast-D Tablet?

Reported side effects may include insomnia, dry mouth, and headache. Because Telfast-D contains a decongestant, some people may also experience restlessness or difficulty sleeping. If side effects are severe, persistent, or concerning, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Can I take Telfast-D Tablet with other cold, flu, or allergy medicines?

Check the ingredients of any other cold, flu, allergy, or nasal congestion products before taking them together with Telfast-D Tablet. Avoid combining it with another product containing a decongestant unless advised by a doctor or pharmacist, as this may result in excessive intake of similar ingredients and increase the risk of side effects.

Can I take Telfast-D Tablet at night?

Telfast-D Tablet may cause restlessness or difficulty sleeping in some people because of its decongestant component. If you notice that it affects your sleep, taking the medicine earlier in the day may be more suitable, provided this is consistent with the dosage instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Telfast-D Tablet?

Take the missed dose when you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If the next dose is due soon, skip the missed dose and continue with your usual schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If you are unsure how to manage a missed dose, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

How long can I use Telfast-D Tablet?

Use Telfast-D Tablet for the duration recommended by your doctor or pharmacist. Decongestants are generally intended for appropriate short-term use rather than prolonged unsupervised treatment. If your allergy or nasal congestion symptoms persist, worsen, or do not improve after several days, seek medical advice rather than continuing treatment on your own.
