Ultracet 37.5/325mg Tablet

Ultracet 37.5/325mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination of tramadol 37.5mg, an opioid pain reliever, and paracetamol 325mg, a non-opioid analgesic, used for the short-term management of moderate to moderately severe acute pain, such as after surgery, dental procedures, or injury.

Tramadol relieves pain by acting on opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord and by boosting the pain-inhibiting effects of serotonin and noradrenaline, while paracetamol works through a separate, less clearly understood central pathway. Together they provide pain relief through complementary mechanisms, often allowing a lower dose of each component.

Tramadol binds to mu-opioid receptors and inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline in the central nervous system, both of which reduce the transmission and perception of pain signals. Paracetamol is thought to act centrally, partly by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the brain, contributing additional analgesic and mild antipyretic effects.

Take Ultracet 37.5/325mg Tablet with or without food, swallowing the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take only when needed for pain and do not take more frequently or for longer than prescribed, as both tramadol and paracetamol carry risks of harm when overused.

The usual adult dose of Ultracet 37.5/325mg Tablet is 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed for pain, not exceeding the maximum daily dose stated by your doctor or pharmacist, and only for the shortest duration needed to control your pain. Your doctor will individualise the dose and duration based on your pain severity, kidney and liver function, and other medicines you are taking.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Nausea or vomiting
• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Constipation
• Dry mouth or sweating
• Serious: slowed or difficult breathing, seizures, severe confusion, or signs of serotonin syndrome (agitation, rapid heartbeat, high fever, muscle twitching) require immediate emergency medical attention

• Known hypersensitivity to tramadol, paracetamol, or other opioids
• Acute intoxication with alcohol, sedatives, opioids, or other centrally acting medicines
• Use of, or within 14 days of, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
• Severe liver impairment or uncontrolled epilepsy
• Severe respiratory depression or acute/severe asthma

• SSRIs, SNRIs, or MAOIs significantly increase the risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with tramadol
• Alcohol and other sedating medicines (benzodiazepines, sleeping tablets) increase the risk of severe drowsiness and breathing difficulty
• Warfarin’s blood-thinning effect may be enhanced, requiring closer INR monitoring
• Other paracetamol-containing products increase the risk of liver damage from excess total paracetamol intake

• Never exceed the maximum daily dose or take other paracetamol-containing products at the same time
• Avoid alcohol while taking this medicine
• Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you, as it can cause drowsiness
• Use only for as long as your doctor advises, as tramadol carries a risk of dependence with prolonged use
