Product Overview

Introduction of Yasmin Tablet 21s

Yasmin Tablet is a widely recognised prescription-only medicine belonging to the class of combined oral contraceptives (COCs), containing two active pharmaceutical ingredients: ethinylestradiol (a synthetic oestrogen at 0.03mg) and drospirenone (a fourth-generation synthetic progestogen at 3mg) — a hormone combination that has been clinically evaluated and approved by regulatory bodies in numerous countries, including Malaysia. Manufactured by Bayer AG, one of the world's foremost pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, Yasmin is a well-established hormonal preparation that has been available globally for over two decades. As with all hormonal contraceptives, it is important that you are aware of potential side effects before starting this medicine; among the most commonly reported are nausea or stomach discomfort, breast tenderness, headache, and changes in menstrual bleeding patterns such as lighter periods or spotting between cycles. There are several important things you should know before purchasing: Yasmin is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia and requires a valid doctor's authorisation to be dispensed, it must not be used if you smoke and are over the age of 35 (due to increased cardiovascular risk), and it should be taken consistently every day at the same time to maintain its effectiveness. We encourage you to speak with your doctor or gynaecologist to confirm that Yasmin is the right hormonal preparation for your individual health profile before placing an order.

How to Take Yasmin Tablet

Yasmin Tablet is taken orally — swallow one tablet whole each day at approximately the same time, with a glass of water, with or without food, following the direction indicated by the arrows on the blister strip until all 21 tablets have been taken. After completing the 21-tablet course, observe a 7-day tablet-free interval during which a withdrawal bleed typically occurs, then begin the next blister pack on the eighth day regardless of whether bleeding has stopped. Do not skip doses or alter the timing of administration without consulting your doctor, as inconsistent use may reduce effectiveness; if you miss a tablet, refer to the patient information leaflet for specific missed-dose guidance or contact your healthcare provider.

Dosage of Yasmin Tablet

The standard dosage of Yasmin is one tablet taken orally once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free break, after which the next pack is started — this 21-day active / 7-day break cycle is repeated continuously as long as the medicine is prescribed. The dose is fixed at ethinylestradiol 0.03mg and drospirenone 3mg per tablet; there is no dose adjustment based on weight or age within the indicated population, and no additional tablets should be taken to compensate for a missed dose beyond what is specified in the product leaflet or by your prescribing doctor.

Shelf Life of Yasmin Tablet

Shelf Life

Typically 3 to 5 years from the date of manufacture, as printed on the outer carton and individual blister strip.

Expiry Check

Always verify the expiry date on the blister strip and outer packaging before commencing a new pack. Do not take tablets from an expired blister — hormonal potency and pharmaceutical stability cannot be guaranteed beyond the stated date.

Post-Expiry

Expired oral contraceptive tablets should be disposed of responsibly. Do not flush down the toilet or discard in open waste. Return unused or expired medicine to a registered pharmacy for safe pharmaceutical disposal in compliance with environmental guidelines.

How to Store Yasmin Tablet

Temperature

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry location. In Malaysia's tropical climate, it is especially important to keep the medicine away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and warm surfaces such as window ledges, dashboards, or kitchen counters.

Humidity

Do not store in bathrooms or areas prone to steam and moisture. Excessive humidity may degrade the tablet coating and compromise the stability of the hormonal active ingredients over time.

Packaging

Keep tablets in their original blister strip and outer carton until the time of use. Do not transfer tablets to other containers, pill boxes, or unmarked packaging — the blister provides essential protection and allows date tracking.

Children

Store completely out of the reach and sight of children and adolescents at all times. Consider using a lockable medicine cabinet or storage area if young people are present in the household.

Travel

When travelling — particularly through warm climates or on long-haul journeys — carry Yasmin in its original packaging within a cool, sealed pouch. Do not leave in a parked vehicle or checked luggage exposed to extreme temperatures.

Active Ingredients of Yasmin Tablet

Each Yasmin Tablet contains two active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs):

Active Ingredient 1

Ethinylestradiol (EE) — 0.03mg per tablet
Drug Class (EE): Synthetic Oestrogen — Ethinyloestradiol

Active Ingredient 2

Drospirenone (DRSP) — 3mg per tablet
Drug Class (DRSP): Fourth-Generation Synthetic Progestogen — Spironolactone Analogue with antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties

Formulation Type

Sugar-coated (film-coated) oral tablet, light yellow in colour

Brand Manufacturer

Bayer AG (Germany) — marketed under license by Bayer (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

Pack Size

21 active tablets per blister strip; typically sold as a 1-month supply per pack

Inactive Excipients

Lactose monohydrate, maize starch, pregelatinised maize starch, povidone K25, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, talc, titanium dioxide, iron oxide yellow (E172), and iron oxide red (E172). Note: patients with lactose intolerance should be aware of the lactose content — consult a pharmacist or doctor. Always refer to the current product package insert for the complete and authoritative excipient list.

Side Effects of Yasmin Tablet

Yasmin Tablet may cause side effects in some individuals. Many are mild and often improve after the first few cycles as the body adjusts to the hormonal formulation. However, some reactions require prompt medical attention. You should be fully informed of both common and less frequent adverse effects before commencing treatment:

Common Side Effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 users)

  • Nausea or mild stomach discomfort — particularly during the first 1 to 3 cycles; taking the tablet with food may help
  • Breast tenderness, swelling, or discomfort (mastalgia)
  • Headache or migraine — if headaches are new, unusually severe, or persistent, consult a doctor promptly
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting (breakthrough bleeding), particularly in the early months of use
  • Changes in menstrual flow — lighter periods or occasionally absent withdrawal bleeds
  • Mood changes, emotional sensitivity, or low mood (dysthymia)
  • Decreased libido (reduced sexual desire)
  • Contact lens intolerance — changes in corneal curvature or moisture may occur with hormonal contraceptive use

Less Common Side Effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 users)

  • Fluid retention, bloating, or mild peripheral oedema (swelling of the hands, feet, or ankles) — related to the antimineralocorticoid activity of drospirenone, which generally reduces this compared to other progestogens
  • Weight changes — modest weight gain or fluctuation has been reported by some users
  • Skin reactions — including acne flare (uncommon given drospirenone's antiandrogenic properties) or, conversely, improvement in pre-existing acne
  • Chloasma (melasma) — brownish pigmentation patches on the face, particularly with sun exposure; use sun protection
  • Elevated blood pressure (hypertension) — blood pressure should be monitored periodically during treatment
  • Decreased glucose tolerance — of clinical relevance in women with pre-diabetes or insulin resistance
  • Vaginal dryness or discharge changes
  • Hyperkalaemia (elevated blood potassium levels) — a specific consideration with drospirenone due to its antimineralocorticoid effect; relevant in women taking potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or ARBs

Rare but Serious Reactions (seek immediate medical attention)

  • Venous thromboembolism (VTE) — including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE); symptoms include unilateral leg pain or swelling, sudden onset of breathlessness, or chest pain; call emergency services immediately
  • Arterial thrombotic events — including myocardial infarction (heart attack) or ischaemic stroke; symptoms include sudden chest pain, facial drooping, arm weakness, or slurred speech; this is a medical emergency
  • Severe hypertension or hypertensive crisis
  • Hepatocellular adenoma or, rarely, malignant liver tumours — though an extremely rare association, any unusual upper abdominal pain or right-sided tenderness in a long-term COC user should be medically investigated
  • Severe allergic or hypersensitivity reactions — including angioedema, urticaria, or anaphylaxis
  • Gallbladder disease — combined oral contraceptives may increase the risk of symptomatic gallstones in susceptible individuals

Contraindications of Yasmin Tablet

Yasmin Tablet is not appropriate for all individuals. This medicine must NOT be used in the following circumstances:

  • Known or suspected pregnancy — combined hormonal contraceptives are not indicated during pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding women — oestrogen-containing contraceptives may reduce milk production; a progestogen-only alternative is generally preferred during lactation
  • Current or history of venous thromboembolism (DVT or PE), or known thrombophilic conditions such as Factor V Leiden mutation, protein C or S deficiency, antithrombin deficiency, or antiphospholipid syndrome
  • Current or history of arterial thrombotic events — including myocardial infarction, stroke, transient ischaemic attack (TIA), or peripheral arterial disease
  • Presence of severe or multiple risk factors for arterial or venous thrombosis — including smoking over age 35, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus with vascular complications, or prolonged immobilisation
  • Migraine with aura — this is an absolute contraindication as it is associated with significantly increased stroke risk in COC users
  • Active or history of severe hepatic disease, including hepatic adenoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, or Budd-Chiari syndrome
  • Hepatic impairment — until liver function has returned to normal (COCs are hepatically metabolised)
  • Renal insufficiency or adrenal insufficiency — due to the potassium-elevating potential of drospirenone, which can cause dangerous hyperkalaemia in these populations
  • Known or suspected oestrogen-dependent or progestogen-dependent malignancies (e.g. breast cancer, endometrial cancer) — current or historical
  • Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal or uterine bleeding
  • Known hypersensitivity to ethinylestradiol, drospirenone, or any inactive excipient in the formulation — including those with confirmed lactose intolerance (relevant to excipient content)
  • Concurrent use of hepatitis C combination medicines containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir, with or without dasabuvir — due to risk of significant transaminase elevations

Drug & Food Interaction of Yasmin Tablet

Drug Interactions

  • CYP3A4 enzyme inducers — anticonvulsants (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, primidone, topiramate): These drugs significantly accelerate the hepatic metabolism of both ethinylestradiol and drospirenone, substantially reducing plasma hormone concentrations and potentially compromising contraceptive efficacy — additional or alternative contraceptive measures are required
  • Rifampicin and rifabutin (anti-tuberculosis antibiotics): Among the most potent CYP3A4 inducers known; can reduce hormonal levels to clinically ineffective concentrations — alternative non-hormonal contraception should be used during and for at least 28 days after rifampicin therapy
  • HIV antiretrovirals and hepatitis C antivirals (e.g. ritonavir, lopinavir, nelfinavir, nevirapine, efavirenz, boceprevir, telaprevir, ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir combinations): Many of these agents induce or inhibit CYP3A4 and can markedly alter hormone levels — some combinations are absolutely contraindicated; specialist medical advice is essential
  • St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum): A widely used herbal CYP3A4 inducer; regular use can reduce contraceptive hormone levels and increase the risk of breakthrough bleeding and unintended pregnancy — avoid concurrent use
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, aldosterone antagonists (e.g. spironolactone, eplerenone, enalapril, losartan): Drospirenone has antimineralocorticoid activity and may elevate serum potassium; co-administration with potassium-raising agents increases the risk of clinically significant hyperkalaemia — potassium levels should be monitored
  • Ciclosporin: Ethinylestradiol may inhibit the metabolism of ciclosporin, potentially increasing plasma ciclosporin concentrations and toxicity risk — dose adjustment and therapeutic monitoring may be required
  • Lamotrigine (anticonvulsant): Combined oestrogen-progestogen preparations can significantly reduce lamotrigine plasma levels through glucuronidation induction, potentially reducing seizure control; this combination requires close neurological monitoring and possible dose adjustment
  • Broad-spectrum antibiotics (e.g. ampicillin, tetracyclines — historical concern): The theoretical risk that antibiotics may disrupt enterohepatic recirculation of oestrogen and reduce efficacy is no longer supported by robust clinical evidence for most antibiotics; however, some regulatory bodies still advise additional precautions during short antibiotic courses — consult your doctor if you are prescribed antibiotics while on Yasmin
  • Antifungals (e.g. fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole — CYP3A4 inhibitors): These agents may increase plasma concentrations of ethinylestradiol and drospirenone, potentially enhancing both effects and adverse events

Food & Beverage Interactions

  • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice: Contains furanocoumarin compounds that inhibit intestinal CYP3A4 and may modestly increase ethinylestradiol plasma levels — while not definitively clinically significant for most women, regular large intake is best avoided to minimise unpredictable hormone level fluctuations
  • Alcohol: No direct pharmacokinetic interaction between Yasmin and alcohol has been established. However, excessive alcohol consumption impairs medication adherence (increasing the risk of missed doses), may trigger vomiting shortly after tablet ingestion, and interacts with overall cardiovascular and hepatic health — all relevant considerations for women on hormonal contraceptives
  • High-fat meals: Food does not significantly alter the overall absorption of ethinylestradiol or drospirenone in a clinically meaningful way; Yasmin can be taken with or without food. Taking it with a light meal may help reduce nausea during the early cycles

Quick Tips for Yasmin Tablet

  • Always ensure you have a valid prescription before ordering Yasmin — it is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia, and a licensed pharmacist cannot lawfully dispense it without a verified doctor's authorisation.
  • Take your tablet at the same time every day — setting a daily alarm or phone reminder is a practical habit that helps maintain consistent hormone levels and reduces the risk of missed doses.
  • Never stop taking Yasmin suddenly without consulting your doctor first, even if you feel unwell — abrupt discontinuation mid-pack can cause irregular bleeding and disrupt your hormonal cycle.
  • Keep your Yasmin blister strip in its original carton so you can always track the start date, expiry date, and the directional arrows on the blister — these details matter for safe, consistent daily use.
  • Store the medicine in a cool, dry location away from heat and humidity — Malaysia's climate requires particular attention, so a dedicated indoor medicine cabinet is preferable to a bathroom shelf or car glove box.
  • Do not share your Yasmin prescription or tablets with anyone else — this medicine is prescribed based on your individual health assessment and is not universally suitable for all women.
  • If you are prescribed any new medication — including antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antifungals, or herbal supplements — always inform both your prescribing doctor and dispensing pharmacist that you are taking Yasmin, as interactions can affect its reliability.
  • Inspect the blister packaging carefully upon delivery — ensure seals are intact, tablets are consistently coloured and shaped, and the expiry date has not passed before storing or taking the product.
  • If you experience a severe headache, one-sided leg swelling, sudden visual changes, chest pain, or difficulty breathing while on Yasmin, stop taking the tablets and seek emergency medical care immediately — these may be signs of a serious vascular event.
  • Purchase only from a licensed, verified online pharmacy in Malaysia that carries MOH-registered and NPRA-approved products — the authenticity and pharmaceutical quality of Yasmin is non-negotiable when it comes to hormonal medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) — Yasmin Tablet

The following FAQs are designed to assist customers in Malaysia who are considering purchasing Yasmin Tablet through our registered online pharmacy.

Can I buy Yasmin Tablet online in Malaysia?

Yes, Yasmin Tablet is available for purchase through our licensed online pharmacy in Malaysia. As it is classified as a prescription-only medicine (POM) in Malaysia, a valid prescription from a registered Malaysian doctor is required before your order can be dispensed. Our pharmacy operates in full compliance with the Poisons Act 1952, the Sale of Drugs Act, and all applicable Ministry of Health (MOH) regulations. You can submit your prescription digitally during the ordering process.

Is a prescription required to order Yasmin Tablet from your online pharmacy?

Yes — a valid doctor's prescription is mandatory. Yasmin is a combined hormonal contraceptive and a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. Our registered in-house pharmacist reviews and verifies all prescriptions before any order is confirmed and processed. We do not dispense Yasmin or any other prescription medicine without a legitimate, verifiable prescription — this policy is in place to protect your health and ensure responsible pharmaceutical practice. If you do not currently have a prescription, we recommend consulting a registered doctor or gynaecologist before placing an order.

How do I submit my prescription when ordering online?

Submitting your prescription is simple. During the checkout process on our website, you can upload a clear photograph or scanned copy of your original doctor's prescription. Alternatively, you may send it via our WhatsApp or email customer service channel, and our team will guide you through the verification steps. All prescription documents are treated with strict confidentiality and reviewed by our licensed pharmacist before your order is released for dispatch.

Is the Yasmin Tablet on your website the authentic Bayer product?

Yes, without exception. The Yasmin Tablet available through our online pharmacy is the genuine, original brand product manufactured by Bayer AG — a globally respected pharmaceutical company with a long-standing reputation in women's healthcare. All medicines we stock are sourced exclusively through authorised pharmaceutical distributors and verified Malaysian supply chains. The product holds a valid NPRA (National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency) registration in Malaysia, and we welcome you to verify this independently through the official NPRA Malaysia portal.

How long will delivery take within Malaysia?

Standard delivery to addresses in Peninsular Malaysia typically takes 2 to 4 working days from the date your order is confirmed and your prescription is verified. Deliveries to East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) may take between 4 to 7 working days. Express or next-day delivery options may be available for selected postcodes — please check at checkout or contact our customer service team for the fastest available option to your location. All orders are dispatched in discreet, tamper-evident packaging that keeps your product protected and your privacy intact.

Do you deliver Yasmin Tablet to Singapore?

We do not currently offer cross-border delivery of prescription medicines to Singapore. Singapore maintains its own pharmaceutical importation and prescription dispensing regulations, and all prescription medicines must be obtained through a locally registered doctor and licensed pharmacy. If you are residing in Singapore, we recommend consulting a Singapore-registered gynaecologist or general practitioner for access to Yasmin or an equivalent combined oral contraceptive. Our prescription medicine delivery services are available for customers within Malaysia only.

Will my order be packaged discreetly?

Absolutely. We understand that many customers value discretion when ordering reproductive health medicines. Every order is dispatched in plain, fully unmarked outer packaging — no product name, medicine category, or pharmacy branding is visible on the exterior of your parcel. Our billing statements are equally discreet. Our entire fulfilment process is designed with your privacy as a priority, from the moment you place your order to the moment it arrives at your door.

What should I do if my delivered Yasmin tablets look different or the packaging appears tampered?

If the tablets you receive appear visually different from what you would normally expect — in terms of colour, shape, coating, or embossed markings — or if the outer carton or blister strip shows any signs of tampering, damage, or broken seals, do not take the medication. Contact our customer service team immediately and provide clear photographs of both the product and its packaging. We will investigate promptly and arrange a replacement or full refund in accordance with our quality assurance and returns policy.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind after ordering?

Due to Malaysian pharmaceutical regulations and the prescription medicine status of Yasmin, dispensed or opened blister strips generally cannot be returned or exchanged unless the product is defective, damaged, or incorrectly supplied. We encourage all customers to confirm their requirements with our pharmacist and review their order carefully before completing the purchase. Our pharmacist team is available to answer any questions prior to your order being placed.

Is it safe to purchase Yasmin from an online pharmacy in Malaysia?

It is safe when you purchase exclusively from a licensed, registered online pharmacy that is compliant with Malaysian pharmaceutical law. Our pharmacy is registered with the appropriate Malaysian regulatory authorities and operates under the supervision of a qualified, registered pharmacist. We strongly advise against purchasing prescription hormonal medicines from unverified websites, social media sellers, or informal online marketplaces — counterfeit or substandard hormonal tablets from unregulated sources can be pharmaceutically inconsistent and pose real health risks. Always look for verifiable MOH and NPRA registration before transacting with any online medicine supplier.

How can I confirm that your pharmacy is legitimate and properly registered in Malaysia?

We actively welcome this question — it reflects exactly the kind of due diligence every online medicine buyer should exercise. Our pharmacy registration details and pharmacist credentials are available upon request and are displayed on our website. You may independently verify our registration and the NPRA product listing for Yasmin through the official Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) portal and the NPRA Malaysia website. We are fully transparent about our regulatory compliance and are happy to assist you with any verification query.

Can I continue buying Yasmin online each month through your pharmacy?

Yes. Many of our customers rely on us as their regular, trusted source for ongoing prescription medicine supplies, including monthly refills. Once your initial prescription has been verified, our pharmacist team can help streamline the repeat ordering process. Please note that prescriptions have a validity period and may require periodic renewal from your doctor — our team will advise you on this during the ordering process. We recommend setting a reminder a few days before your current pack runs out to ensure uninterrupted supply.

How should I store Yasmin Tablet in Malaysia's climate?

Proper storage is important for maintaining the pharmaceutical integrity of Yasmin's hormonal active ingredients. Store below 30°C in a cool, dry location — away from direct sunlight, bathroom steam, kitchen heat, and humid conditions. Do not leave the medicine in a parked car, near a window, or in a bathroom cabinet. Keep tablets in the original blister strip inside the outer carton, and check the expiry date on the pack before starting each new strip. A dedicated, dry indoor medicine cabinet at room temperature is the ideal storage solution in Malaysia's tropical climate.
