Yasmin Tablet

Yasmin Tablet is a combined oral contraceptive pill containing drospirenone 3mg and ethinylestradiol 0.03mg, supplied in a 21-tablet pack. It is used to prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and thinning the lining of the womb.

Because combined hormonal contraceptives carry risks such as blood clots that need to be weighed against each woman’s individual health background, Yasmin is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia. Yasmin Tablet should be used before the expiry date printed on the blister strip and carton, and should not be taken once expired, as its hormone content may no longer reliably prevent pregnancy.

Store Yasmin Tablet below 30°C in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep it out of reach of children. Leave tablets in their original blister packaging until ready to be taken.

• Current or history of venous or arterial thromboembolism (blood clots, stroke, or heart attack)
• Known high risk of thrombosis or certain inherited clotting disorders
• Migraine with aura
• Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Severe liver disease or liver tumours
• Known or suspected breast or other hormone-sensitive cancer
• Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Heavy smoking in women aged over 35

• Enzyme-inducing medicines such as rifampicin, carbamazepine, and phenytoin can reduce Yasmin’s contraceptive effectiveness
• St John’s Wort may lower hormone levels and reduce reliability
• Some antibiotics may affect contraceptive reliability and require backup protection
• Drospirenone can raise potassium levels, so combining Yasmin with potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or long-term NSAID use should be discussed with your doctor
• Certain antifungal or antiretroviral medicines may alter hormone metabolism

• Take Yasmin at the same time every day to maintain effective contraception
• Use backup contraception if you vomit or have severe diarrhoea within hours of taking a tablet
• Do not extend the 7-day tablet-free interval beyond 7 days
• Smoking while on Yasmin increases the risk of blood clots, especially after age 35
• Follow the leaflet’s missed-pill instructions carefully if you forget a dose
• Keep up with scheduled doctor follow-ups to reassess ongoing suitability
