Overview

Zinnat 250mg Tablet contains cefuroxime (as cefuroxime axetil), a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, throat, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract caused by susceptible bacteria.

Cefuroxime works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which weakens the wall and causes the bacteria to burst and die, clearing the infection.

How it Works

Zinnat binds to proteins in the bacterial cell wall that are needed for the wall to be built and maintained. This blocks proper wall formation, causing the bacterial cell to become unstable, rupture, and die.

Directions for Use

Swallow the tablet whole with food to improve absorption; do not crush or chew it.

Dosage

The dose and duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of infection and is determined by the treating doctor, typically taken twice daily with food for a course of several days.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Antacids and medicines that reduce stomach acid can reduce the absorption of cefuroxime axetil – space doses apart as advised by your doctor.
  • Probenecid can increase cefuroxime levels in the blood by slowing its elimination.
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking, especially other antibiotics.

Quick Tips

  • Take this medicine with food, as it improves absorption of the tablet form.
  • Complete the full course as prescribed, even if you feel better before it is finished.
  • Do not crush or chew the tablet – swallow it whole.
  • Seek medical attention if you develop a rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, as these can signal an allergic reaction.
