Zithromax 250mg Tablet

Zithromax 250mg Tablet contains azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, sinuses, skin, and certain sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Azithromycin works by binding to bacterial ribosomes, blocking bacteria from producing the proteins they need to grow and multiply, which stops the infection from spreading and allows the immune system to clear it.

• Treats bacterial respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis.
• Treats bacterial ear, nose, and throat infections.
• Treats bacterial skin and soft tissue infections.
• Treats certain sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, as directed by a doctor.

• Short treatment courses (often 3 to 5 days) due to its long-lasting effect in body tissues.
• Once-daily dosing improves convenience and treatment adherence.

Zithromax binds to the bacterial ribosome, the cell structure bacteria use to make proteins. By blocking protein production, azithromycin stops bacteria from growing and reproducing, allowing the infection to clear.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food.

The dose and length of treatment depends on the type of infection and is determined by the treating doctor, commonly given once daily for a short course of 3 to 5 days.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics
• History of jaundice or liver problems with previous azithromycin use
• Known heart rhythm problems, particularly QT prolongation

• Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium can reduce azithromycin absorption if taken at the same time – space doses apart.
• Combining with other medicines that prolong the QT interval of the heart can increase the risk of a serious heart rhythm problem.
• Warfarin’s blood-thinning effect may be enhanced when combined with azithromycin – monitoring may be needed.
• Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking.

• Complete the full course as prescribed, even if you feel better before it ends.
• Take antacids at least 2 hours apart from this medicine if both are needed.
• Seek medical attention if you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, as this can signal a rare liver problem.
• Report irregular heartbeat, palpitations, or fainting to your doctor promptly.
