Uses of Clindamycin

Clindamycin is commonly used in the treatment of acne and bacterial infections.

How Clindamycin Works

Clindamycin is an antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit reversibly. This stops the translocation or transpeptidation and results in stunted cell growth.

Side Effects of Clindamycin

Abdominal pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea , Pseudomembranous colitis, Taste disturbance, Urticaria, Skin rashes, Contact dermatitis, Local irritation

Clindamycin Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with clindamycin. Consuming clindamycin with alcohol will not interfere with the way the medication works.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Use of clindamycin is acceptable during pregnancy. Animal reproduction studies do not demonstrate adverse effects on the fetus, and there are no adequate studies in pregnant women. This medication should only be used when there is a clear indication of infection. Please consult your doctor before use.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

American Academy of Pediatrics considers clindamycin administration compatible with breastfeeding.

Driving Generally Safe

Clindamycin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Clindamycin can be used in patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment. Dose adjustment of clindamycin is only needed if patients have severe kidney impairment. Please consult your doctor before use.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

Clindamycin should be used with caution in patients with liver disorder. Dose adjustment of clindamycin is needed. Please consult your doctor.
