Dienogest is commonly used for birth contraceptive and endometriosis.

How Dienogest Works

Dienogest, a progestogen that reduces oestrogen production, which affects endometrial tissue including ectopic endometrium. The hypoestrogenic environment causes shedding of endometrial tissue followed by atrophy of endometriotic lesions.

Side Effects of Dienogest

Acne, Breast discomfort, Headache, Intermenstrual bleeding, Nausea, Increased weight, Abdominal pain, Amenorrhea, Dysmenorrhea.

Dienogest Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interactions between Dienogest and alcohol drinking. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, being intoxicated might influence judgement and cause users to forget consumption of their medications on time.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Dienogest is not indicated for usage during pregnancy. Since animal studies or human studies have not shown adverse effects on the fetus, please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Not Advisable

Dienogest reduces production of breast milk. Hence, other contraceptive method aside from Dienogest should be considered until the nursing mother has completely weaned her child. Excretion of Dienogest into breast milk is in minimal amounts and may possibly affect the child.

Driving Generally Safe

Dienogest has negligible effect on your ability to concentrate and drive. You are allowed to drive unless you feel unwell.

Kidney Use With Care

Dienogest should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease as it can cause fluid retention and its effect of usage on renal impairment patients has not been studied enough. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Liver Use With Care

Dienogest should be used with caution in patients with liver disease as in cause disturbances in liver enzymes. Dose adjustment of Dienogest may be needed. It is contraindicated in past history in liver disease. Please consult your doctor before using it.
