Uses of Papain

Papain is commonly used to treat oedema and inflammation.

How Papain Works

Papain is a cysteine protease enzyme that is found in species of papaya. When applied topically, papain induces an allergen-like inflammatory response by recruiting neutrophils, mast cells, and CD3-positive cells and by induction of a TH2-biased antibody response.
