Medela Purelan Nipple Cream

Medela Purelan Nipple Cream is a 100% pure, medical-grade lanolin nipple cream. The compact 7g tube contains a single ingredient — ultra-purified lanolin that meets both European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) standards — with no additives, preservatives, or fragrances, making it convenient to carry in a nappy bag or handbag.

This is a cosmetic/OTC skincare product rather than a medicine, and does not require a prescription. It is formulated for breastfeeding mothers and does not need to be removed before the baby feeds again.

Lanolin is a natural, wax-like substance derived from sheep’s wool that closely resembles the skin’s own protective oils. Applied to the nipple, it forms a soft, moisture-retentive layer on the skin surface that helps reduce further moisture loss, without needing to be wiped off before the next feed.

Wash your hands before use. Warm a pea-sized amount of cream between your fingertips, then apply it to the entire nipple and areola area after each breastfeeding session or pumping. There is no need to remove the cream before the next feed — simply apply again after feeding as needed.

Not applicable — this cream is for external, topical use on the nipple area only and is not swallowed by the mother. There is no fixed dose; apply a pea-sized amount to the nipple after each breastfeeding session, or as often as needed.

Unopened, the cream is generally stable for around 24 to 36 months from manufacture; always check the expiry date printed on the tube or carton. Once opened, it is best used within around 6 to 12 months.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the tube tightly closed after each use and out of reach of children.

• Discontinue use and seek medical advice if signs of nipple infection (such as increasing pain, warmth, redness, or discharge) develop, as this may need separate treatment.

• No drug or food interactions are known for this topical lanolin cream, as it is applied externally and is not intended to be ingested; it is also considered safe to leave on the skin during breastfeeding without needing to be washed off first.

• Apply after every breastfeeding session or pumping.
• There is no need to wipe the cream off before the next feed, as it is safe for the baby.
• Warm the cream briefly between your fingers before applying, to make it easier to spread.
• Keep the 7g tube in your nappy bag or handbag for convenient on-the-go use.
• If nipple discomfort persists despite regular use, check your baby’s latch with a lactation consultant.
• Avoid use if you have a known lanolin or wool allergy.
