Neilmed Sinus Rinse Starter Kit

The NeilMed Sinus Rinse Starter Kit is a drug-free nasal irrigation system that uses isotonic saline. The kit is an introduction pack for nasal irrigation and includes the signature squeeze bottle together with a starter supply of pre-mixed saline packets containing USP-grade sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate; the exact number of packets included may vary depending on the pack size sold.

Unlike a saline nasal spray, this system rinses a larger volume of solution through the nasal cavity. It is a squeeze-bottle irrigation format suitable for both adults and older children (with adult supervision). It is sold over the counter and does not contain any medication, preservatives, or artificial additives.

The Sinus Rinse Starter Kit works on the principle of isotonic saline irrigation. When a saline packet is dissolved in the correct volume of lukewarm water, it forms a solution close to the natural salt concentration of the body’s own tissue fluid, which is gentle and non-irritating to the nasal lining. Squeezing the bottle pushes this solution through one nostril, around the nasal cavity, and out of the other nostril (or back out of the same nostril), mechanically carrying mucus and other particles out of the nasal passages.

Wash your hands before use. Fill the NeilMed bottle with lukewarm distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water to the fill line, empty one saline packet into the bottle, close it, and shake or swirl gently until the powder is fully dissolved. Lean forward over a sink with your head tilted downward, place the nozzle tip just inside one nostril, keep your mouth open and breathe normally, then gently squeeze the bottle so the solution flows in through that nostril and out through the other (or back out of the same nostril). Repeat on the other side, then gently blow your nose to clear any remaining solution and mucus. Rinse the bottle and nozzle with clean water after each use and allow them to air-dry.

Typically, one saline packet (about 2.7 g) is dissolved in 240 mL of lukewarm distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water to fill the bottle. This full-bottle rinse is generally used once or twice daily, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist, and the frequency can be adjusted for a few days as advised before returning to a regular schedule.

Do not use the saline packets or the assembled kit beyond the expiry date printed on the packaging. Once a saline packet has been mixed with water, use the prepared solution promptly and discard any unused rinse rather than storing it for later use.

Store the unopened saline packets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, following the storage conditions stated on the packaging. Keep the squeeze bottle clean and completely dry between uses, and inspect it periodically for cracks or discolouration, replacing it if it becomes damaged or difficult to clean.

• Common: Mild stinging or a burning sensation in the nose during the first few uses.
• Common: Increased sneezing or a runny sensation immediately after rinsing.
• Common: Temporary mild ear fullness or pressure, especially if technique is incorrect.
• Serious: Nosebleed, persistent ear pain, or signs of a new nasal or sinus infection following use, which should be assessed by a doctor or pharmacist.

• Do not use if you have a known hypersensitivity to any component of the saline formulation.
• Do not use with untreated tap water or any water source that has not been distilled, sterile, or boiled and cooled, as this may introduce unsafe organisms into the sinuses.
• Do not use a bottle or nozzle that is cracked, damaged, or shared with another person.

• No clinically significant drug interactions are known, as the saline solution is not systemically absorbed in a way that affects other medicines.
• If you use other nasal sprays or medicated nasal treatments, it is generally advisable to rinse first and then apply the medicated product afterwards, so the medication is not immediately washed away; check with your pharmacist for your specific product.
• No food interactions are known with this product.

• Always use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water — never untreated tap water.
• Rinse over a sink and lean forward with your mouth open to avoid swallowing the solution.
• Wash and air-dry the bottle and nozzle after every single use.
• Do not share your bottle with other family members, even during the same illness.
• Introduce children to the technique gently and always supervise young or first-time users.
• If you have had recent nasal or sinus surgery, check with your doctor before starting nasal irrigation.

Precautions: This kit is intended for nasal and sinus irrigation only and should not be swallowed or used in the eyes. People with a history of frequent nosebleeds, recent nasal or sinus surgery, or structural abnormalities of the nose should check with a doctor before use. Adult supervision is recommended for children using the rinse, and the bottle should never be shared between users.
