Rohto Aqua Eye Drop

Rohto Aqua Eye Drop is an over-the-counter eye drop from the Rohto brand, formulated as a clear, buffered aqueous solution and supplied in a 13ml bottle with Rohto’s fine-tip dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop application.

The formulation is built around Sodium Chloride and Potassium Chloride to keep the solution close to the eye’s natural salt balance, together with Hypromellose, a cellulose-derived lubricant that adds viscosity so the drop sits on the eye’s surface a little longer than a plain saline solution. Boric Acid and Erythritol are included as buffering and stabilising agents, and Benzalkonium Chloride is present as a preservative to keep the multi-dose bottle free of microbial contamination once opened.

Rohto Aqua sits within the Rohto eye drop range as a lubricant-type formulation rather than a menthol-forward, cooling-sensation drop, and it is sold in Malaysia and Singapore as a 13ml multi-dose bottle intended for everyday personal use. Because it contains a preservative, it is formulated for repeated use from the same bottle across the labelled in-use period rather than as a single-use, preservative-free vial.

Wash your hands before use. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Rohto Aqua Eye Drop.

Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and hold the bottle close to the eye without letting the dropper tip touch the eye, eyelid, lashes, fingers, or any other surface. Instil 1 to 2 drops into the pocket, then close your eyes gently for a few moments so the solution spreads evenly across the eye’s surface.

Blot away any excess solution with a clean tissue and replace the cap securely straight after use. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses.

The usual application of Rohto Aqua Eye Drop is 1 to 2 drops into each affected eye, up to 4 times a day, or as directed on the product label or by a pharmacist.

Do not exceed the stated frequency without checking with a pharmacist first. If using alongside another eye drop or ointment, space the applications at least 5 to 10 minutes apart. Check the packaging or ask a pharmacist before giving this product to young children.

Use Rohto Aqua Eye Drop before the expiry date printed on the bottle and carton. Once the bottle has been opened, check the packaging for the manufacturer’s stated in-use discard period and dispose of any remaining solution once that period has passed, since the preservative cannot guarantee sterility indefinitely after opening.

Store Rohto Aqua Eye Drop below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat, with the cap closed tightly between uses. Keep the bottle out of reach and sight of children. Do not use the product if the solution appears cloudy, discoloured, or contains particles, or if the tamper-evident seal was already broken before first use.

• Common: A brief stinging or burning sensation immediately after application.
• Common: Mild, temporary redness of the eye.
• Common: Brief blurry vision right after the drop is instilled, which usually clears within a short time.
• Serious: Dryness or irritation that worsens with frequent or prolonged use beyond the recommended frequency, which can happen with preservative-containing eye drops used too often and should prompt a check-in with a pharmacist.
• Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction, such as marked eyelid swelling, intense itching, or a rash around the eyes, which needs prompt medical attention.

• Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Hypromellose, Boric Acid, Erythritol, Benzalkonium Chloride, or any other ingredient in the formulation.
• Use while soft contact lenses are still in the eye — Benzalkonium Chloride, the preservative in this product, can be absorbed by soft lens material, so lenses should be removed before application and reinserted only after the recommended waiting period.
• Active eye infection, eye injury, or recent eye surgery, unless a doctor or pharmacist has confirmed the product is appropriate.
• The bottle should not be used if the solution has changed colour, become cloudy, or if the tamper-evident seal was broken at first use.

• Rohto Aqua Eye Drop is applied topically to the eye and is not known to interact with orally taken medicines or with food, as it is not swallowed and has minimal systemic absorption when used as directed.
• If used together with another eye drop or eye ointment, apply them at least 5 to 10 minutes apart so one product does not dilute or wash out another before it has been absorbed.
• Tell your pharmacist or doctor about all eye drops and eye medicines you are using, including other over-the-counter products, before starting Rohto Aqua Eye Drop.

• Check that the tamper-evident seal is intact and that the solution is clear before first use.
• Avoid letting the dropper tip touch your eye, fingers, or any surface to keep the remaining solution free of contamination.
• Remove soft contact lenses before applying and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
• Space out applications if you are also using another eye product, rather than applying them back-to-back.
• Store the bottle upright with the cap tightly closed, away from heat and direct sunlight, and out of children’s reach.
• Write the date you first open the bottle on the carton so you know when to discard it according to the manufacturer’s in-use period.

Precautions: Rohto Aqua Eye Drop is for external use in the eye only and should never be swallowed or injected. Remove soft or hard contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them, since the preservative in this product can interact with soft lens material. Use with care in young children and check with a pharmacist before use in infants, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop use if irritation, unusual discomfort, or vision changes occur, and do not use the product beyond its printed expiry date or stated in-use discard period after opening.
