Overview

Sunplay Sport SPF50+ Lotion is a sunscreen lotion from the Sport range of Sunplay, the sun care brand from Mentholatum, made for people who are active outdoors. With SPF50+ stated in its name, it is designed to help protect exposed skin from sunburn during sports, training and outdoor recreation. The lotion spreads over large areas of the body, making it easy to apply before a game, run or ride. It is suited to adults who regularly spend time exercising outside.

Outdoor exercise in Malaysia often means long periods under intense tropical sun combined with heavy sweating. Sunplay Sport SPF50+ Lotion helps you protect your skin during these sessions, but sweat, water and towels can wipe sunscreen away. For this reason, reapply at least every 2 hours and again after swimming or heavy sweating. Applying before you warm up gives the lotion time to set on the skin.

If you sweat heavily, apply only a little close to the eyes, as sweat can carry sunscreen into the eyes and cause stinging. A cap, sunglasses and lightweight long sleeves add further protection during long sessions. Do a patch test before first use if you have sensitive skin, and check the ingredient list on the pack. Remember to drink enough water when exercising in the heat.

Directions for Use

  • Shake well before use if indicated on the pack.
  • Apply a generous, even layer to all exposed skin before going outdoors, ideally about 15 minutes before sun exposure.
  • Pay attention to easily missed areas such as the ears, neck, back of the hands and tops of the feet.
  • Reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse with water.

Dosage

Apply generously before sun exposure, using enough to cover all exposed skin, and reapply at least every 2 hours. Reapply more often after swimming, sweating heavily or towel drying. Use daily whenever you will be outdoors, including on cloudy days.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging and do not use sunscreen past this date, as protection may be reduced. After opening, check the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol, shown as an open jar icon, if it appears on the pack, and use the product within that period.

Storage Instructions

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not leave the bottle in a hot car or in direct sun for long periods, such as on the beach; keep it in the shade or in a bag.
  • Close the cap tightly after each use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Sunscreens like this are generally well tolerated when used as directed.
  • Mild skin redness, stinging or irritation may occur, particularly on sensitive skin.
  • Stinging and watering may occur if the product gets into the eyes.
  • Some people may notice small bumps or a feeling of clogged pores, especially on oily or blemish-prone skin.
  • Rarely, an allergic reaction such as rash, swelling or itchiness may occur.
  • Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if any irritation persists or worsens.

Contraindications

  • Known allergy: Do not use if you are sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the pack.
  • Broken skin: Do not apply to broken, wounded, sunburnt and blistered, or irritated skin.
  • Eyes: Avoid direct contact with the eyes.
  • Infants: For babies under 6 months, keep them out of direct sun and ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any sunscreen.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Food: No known food interactions.
  • Topical treatments: If you are using prescribed topical treatments, check with your doctor or pharmacist before layering sunscreen over them.
  • Photosensitising medicines: Some medicines can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight; ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you need extra sun protection.
  • Insect repellent: If using insect repellent, apply sunscreen first and allow it to set before applying the repellent.

Quick Tips

  • Use sunscreen together with shade, a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing.
  • Try to limit time in direct sun during the strongest hours of the day, roughly late morning to mid-afternoon.
  • Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days, as UV rays can still reach the skin.
  • Use enough product; a thin layer gives less protection than the label suggests.
  • Cleanse your skin at the end of the day to remove sunscreen, sweat and dirt.

Relevant Information

For external use only. If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test on a small area, such as the inner forearm, 24 hours before first use. Keep out of reach of children.

Sunscreen is one part of sun protection and should not be used to extend the time you spend in the sun. If you get sunburnt, or notice a new or changing mole or skin spot, speak to a doctor.
