About Rowachol Capsule 10s (strip)

Surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is the most common treatment for gallstones. Because eliminating gallstones medically requires removing an entire organ, noninvasive therapies for gallstones are gaining popularity.

Alternatives to surgery include:

1. Gallstones Can Be Dissolved By Thickening Bile With Acid Pills

Gallstones can be medicated in some circumstances. Oral bile acid pills contain compounds like ursodiol and chenodiol, which have been demonstrated to dissolve certain gallstones. These drugs thin the bile, allowing gallstones to disintegrate. While these pills are efficient and generally well tolerated, they are only used to treat tiny cholesterol gallstones.

2. Shock Waves Can Disintegrate Small Gallstones

Extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy is another nonsurgical treatment for gallstones (ECSWL). In addition to kidney stones, it can cure gallstones. The treatment's purpose is to disintegrate gallstones by transmitting shock waves into the body's soft tissue. Because ECSWL is only successful on solitary gallstones under 2 cm in diameter, less than 15% of patients are suitable.

3. Drainage Via Endoscopy Follows the Gallbladder's Natural Path

In the healthy gallbladder-to-small intestine pathway, endoscopic drainage is used. Endoscopic transpapillary treatment involves a camera entering the cystic duct through the mouth and neck. Then a cable into the gallbladder. It is coiled to mimic the path of bile out of the small intestine, as in a healthy gallbladder. This method restores normal bile excretion.

4. Acute Cholecystostomy, an Ultrasound-Guided Drainage Procedure

Acute cholecystoenterostomy (ACE) is a treatment where an endoscopic stent is inserted between the gallbladder and alimentary canal to drain infection. Pain relief and re-intervention rates were shown to be comparable or better with ACE than percutaneous cholecystostomy.

Discuss these treatment choices with your doctor to determine the best fit for you.
