Saw palmetto is generally safe to be taken for up to three years. Most of the time, side effects is minimal such as dizziness, headache, nausea, and diarrhea.

Saw palmetto may cause blood clot more slowly. It may result in increased bleeding during and after surgery. At least two weeks before to a scheduled surgery, stop using saw palmetto.
