Overview

Prime Vitamin B1 100mg Tablet is a single-ingredient vitamin supplement that provides 100mg of vitamin B1 (thiamine) in the form of thiamine mononitrate in each tablet. Thiamine mononitrate is a stable, synthetic form of vitamin B1 commonly used in supplements and food fortification. Vitamin B1 is water-soluble, and the body stores only small amounts of it, so a regular intake from food or supplements is needed.

Thiamine is essential for normal energy-yielding metabolism, especially the breakdown of carbohydrates into energy, and it contributes to the normal function of the nervous system and the heart. In the body it is converted into thiamine pyrophosphate, a coenzyme used in several key metabolic reactions. Dietary sources include whole grains, fortified bread and cereals, legumes, nuts, pork and fish, while polished white rice and highly processed foods provide relatively little unless fortified.

The 100mg strength is many times higher than the adult daily requirement of about 1.1 to 1.2mg, and excess thiamine is generally excreted in the urine. People who drink alcohol heavily, older adults, people with diabetes, people who have had bariatric surgery and people taking certain diuretics such as furosemide are more likely to have low thiamine levels. Prime Vitamin B1 100mg Tablet is listed in a pack of 90 tablets; please refer to the product label and packaging for the full product information.

Directions for Use

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably after a meal. Take it at about the same time each day. Follow the directions on the product label or the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage

Adults: One tablet (100mg vitamin B1) daily, or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Follow the dosage stated on the product label.

Do not exceed the recommended dose unless advised by a healthcare professional. If you miss a dose, simply take the next dose at the usual time; do not double up. For children, use only on the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Keep the container tightly closed after each use and keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Common: Mild stomach upset or nausea.
  • Uncommon: Dizziness, sweating or restlessness.
  • Rare: Itching or skin rash.
  • Serious: Allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips or throat, hives or difficulty breathing – stop taking it and seek medical help immediately.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you are allergic to thiamine (vitamin B1) or any other ingredient of the tablet.
  • Not a substitute for urgent medical treatment of suspected severe thiamine deficiency (for example confusion, unsteady walking or eye movement problems in a person who drinks heavily), which requires immediate medical care.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Furosemide and other loop diuretics: Long-term use may increase thiamine loss in the urine; discuss your thiamine status with your doctor.
  • Fluorouracil (chemotherapy): May interfere with thiamine metabolism; check with your oncologist before taking any supplement.
  • Alcohol: Regular heavy drinking reduces thiamine absorption and storage; limit alcohol intake.
  • Other B1-containing products: Check B-complex and multivitamin products you already take to avoid unnecessary duplication.
  • No clinically significant food interactions are well established; taking the tablet after a meal may improve stomach comfort.

Quick Tips

  • Take the tablet after a meal at the same time each day.
  • Include thiamine-containing foods such as whole grains, legumes, nuts and fish in your diet.
  • Check your multivitamin or B-complex labels to avoid taking more vitamin B1 than you need.
  • If you drink alcohol regularly, speak to your doctor about your nutrition and thiamine needs.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed and away from heat and humidity.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all supplements you take before any surgery or new treatment.

Relevant Information

Precautions: Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney or liver disease, have a heart condition, or are taking other medicines or supplements. Although no upper limit has been set for thiamine and excess is usually excreted, keep to the recommended dose and avoid taking several B1-containing products together.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: See a doctor if you have persistent numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, swelling of the legs, breathlessness, confusion or unsteady walking, as these symptoms need medical assessment. Seek urgent help if someone who drinks heavily becomes confused or unsteady. Stop taking the product and get medical help if you notice signs of an allergic reaction.
