Overview

Escapelle 1.5mg Tablet is a tablet with Levonorgestrel 1.5mg declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 1s.

This is a non-prescription product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Swallow one Escapelle tablet whole with water as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse and no later than 72 hours afterward, with or without food; if vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor promptly as a repeat dose may be needed.

Dosage

The dose is a single 1.5mg tablet of levonorgestrel taken as one complete dose; no second tablet is required, and Escapelle should not be taken more than once within the same menstrual cycle without first seeking advice from a pharmacist or doctor.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, keep the tablet in its original blister packaging until ready to use, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Lower abdominal pain or cramping
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Headache
  • Breast tenderness
  • Dizziness
  • Change in timing, duration, or flow of the next menstrual period
  • Vomiting (uncommon, but requires prompt advice if it occurs within 3 hours of dosing)

Contraindications

  • Known or confirmed existing pregnancy, as Escapelle does not terminate a pregnancy
  • Known hypersensitivity to levonorgestrel or any ingredient in the tablet
  • Severe liver disease or impaired liver function, without pharmacist or doctor advice
  • Severe malabsorption conditions such as severe Crohn’s disease, which may reduce absorption and effectiveness

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Enzyme-inducing medicines such as certain anticonvulsants (phenytoin, carbamazepine), rifampicin, and St John’s Wort may reduce the effectiveness of levonorgestrel and may require a doctor’s advice on alternative emergency contraception
  • Concurrent use of other hormonal contraceptives does not add extra protection and should be discussed with a pharmacist
  • Certain HIV medicines (some protease inhibitors) may reduce levonorgestrel effectiveness; inform the pharmacist of all medicines you take

Quick Tips

  • Take Escapelle as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse for the best chance of preventing pregnancy
  • Escapelle is for emergency, occasional use only and is not a routine contraceptive method
  • It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections
  • If your next period is more than 7 days late, unusually light, or you have concerns, take a pregnancy test or see a doctor
  • Discuss starting a regular, ongoing contraceptive method with a pharmacist or doctor after emergency use
  • Seek advice promptly if vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet
