Symbicort 160mcg/4.5mcg Turbuhaler is a combination of two medication in a one inhaler. It works by inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) and relaxes the muscles of the airways.

Your doctor will let you how long you need to use your inhaler. The effect of this medicine may be noticed after a few days, but it will only reach its full limit after a few weeks. This medicine must be taken on a regular basis to be efficient, so continue to take it even if you have no symptoms. That means that its doing its job.

Your symptoms can get worse if you stop taking them. It should not be used to alleviate the sudden shortness of breath.If there is a sudden shortness of breath, use the inhaler for relief. You need to make sure you have the right inhaler technique to get full advantage of this drug, otherwise it doesn't work as well.

How To Use Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses

Unscrew to remove cover and check dose counter to make sure there are still doses left inside. Hold turbuhaler upright while twisting grip. Load a dose by twisting the coloured base of the turbuhaler as far to the right as it can go and then back until a click is heard. Breathe out gently away from the turbuhaler and place mouthpiece between teeth without biting and form a good seal with your lips. Be sure not to cover the air vents. Breathe in strongly and deeply and hold your breath for 5-10 seconds or as long as comfortable. Remove inhaler from mouth. Breathe out gently away from the turbuhaler. If you need to repeat your dose, repeat the above steps. Replace cover once complete.

Avoid excess exposure to sunlight
Avoid this medicine for a longer use

Alcohol Warning (Not Advisable)
Alcohol markedly increases heart rate especially when it is taken together with Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses.

Pregnancy Warning (Not Safe)
There have been animal studies where there was an effect on the foetus especially in the early stages. There are limited or no human studies done yet. Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses can still be taken if the benefits outweigh the risks so please consult your doctor.

Breastfeeding Warning (Limited Data)
In the limited animal studies done, it is found that Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses is excreted in small amounts in breast milk. There are no human studies done yet. Therefore, please consult your doctor to discuss the benefits versus risks before using Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses.

Driving Warning (Generally Safe)
Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses should not affect alertness or driving ability.

Kidney Warning (Use With Care)
Symbicort 160/4.5mcg Turbuhaler 30 doses should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease, even though there is limited data on the effects.

Liver Warning (Limited Data)
Use with caution as hepatic impairment may lead to accumulation of formoterol. Hence, close monitoring is required.

It contains two drugs for long-term treatment in a single inhaler.
It does not alleviate unexpected symptoms. Always, use a rescue inhaler to relieve unwanted symptoms.
Tell your doctor immediately if you have trouble breathing or if the inhaler does not alleviate symptoms.
Do not stop until told by your doctor. After each use, rinse your mouth with water to prevent infections in your mouth and throat.
Get your emergency inhaler everywhere you go.

1. I missed a dose of symbicort. What should I do?

If you have missed a dose by chance, try to consume it as soon as possible when you notice. If the time to your next dosage is close, simply skip the medicine. Do not take more than 2 puffs of symbicort in a day.

2. I accidentally overdosed from the prescribed quantity of symbicort. What should I do?

If you feel that you might have used more than the prescribed quantity of symbicort, please talk to a physician immediately as overdosage more than the prescribed quantity might lead to undesirable side-effects.
