How Ticagrelor Works

Ticagrelor is an allosteric inhibitor of P2Y12 which prevent the binding of ADP to P2Y12 receptors. This will decrease ADP-mediated platelet aggregation.

Side Effects of Ticagrelor

Excessive bleeding, High uric acid level (Gouty attack), Shortness of breath, Dizziness, Syncope, Hypotension, Gut disturbance

Ticagrelor Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Ticagrelor. However, if alcohol is consumed excessively with Ticagrelor, it can irritate your stomach lining and increases the risk of developing stomach ulcers. Please consult your doctor.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicities but there are no data on the use of Ticagrelor on pregnant women. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Animal studies have shown the excretion of Ticagrelor and its metabolites in animal milk but there are no data on human studies. Thus, risk cannot be excluded and the use of Ticagrelor is not advisable during breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Ticagrelor usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Ticagrelor is safe to be used in patients with kidney impairment.

Liver Use With Care

Ticagrelor is contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment. Please consult your doctor.
