Overview

Uniflex Cream contains betamethasone valerate 0.1% w/w, a moderately potent topical corticosteroid used to relieve inflammation, redness, and itching in a range of inflammatory skin conditions.

Betamethasone works by reducing the release of inflammatory chemicals in the skin and suppressing the local immune response, which relieves swelling, redness, and itching in the affected area.

How it Works

Uniflex penetrates the skin and binds to glucocorticoid receptors in skin cells, reducing the production of inflammatory mediators and constricting local blood vessels, which together reduce redness, swelling, and itching.

Directions for Use

Wash and dry the affected area, then apply a thin film of cream and gently rub in. Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated. Do not use under an occlusive dressing unless directed by your doctor.

Dosage

Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor, for the shortest duration needed to control symptoms.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Skin thinning (when used topically)
  • Irritation or burning at application site
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Mood changes or difficulty sleeping
  • Elevated blood sugar levels
  • Stomach upset or bloating
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Increased risk of infections

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to betamethasone or any other ingredient
  • Untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections at the application site
  • Acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis
  • Application on the face, groin, or armpits for prolonged periods without specific medical direction, due to higher absorption in these areas

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other topical corticosteroids: avoid applying multiple steroid products to the same area, as this increases the risk of skin thinning.
  • Large-area or long-term use with other systemic corticosteroids: may increase the overall corticosteroid effect on the body.
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines and skin products you are using, especially other topical treatments on the same area.

Quick Tips

  • Use only on the area of skin advised by your doctor and only for the recommended duration to reduce the risk of skin thinning.
  • Avoid applying to the face, skin folds, or broken skin unless specifically directed by your doctor.
  • Do not use a bandage or dressing over the treated area unless your doctor instructs you to, as this increases absorption.
  • See your doctor if the condition does not improve within the expected time or if the skin worsens.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Uniflex used for?

Uniflex contains betamethasone valerate and is used to relieve inflammation, redness, and itching in eczema, dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

How does Uniflex work?

It reduces the release of inflammatory chemicals in the skin and constricts local blood vessels, easing redness, swelling, and itching.

Can I use this cream on my face?

Facial skin is thinner and absorbs more medicine, so this cream should only be used on the face if your doctor specifically directs it, and usually for a short duration.

How long can I use this cream for?

Use it for the shortest time needed to control your symptoms, as directed by your doctor – prolonged continuous use increases the risk of skin thinning.

What are the common side effects?

Common side effects include skin thinning with prolonged use, burning or stinging on application, and stretch marks.

Can I use this cream if I have a skin infection?

No, this cream should not be used on untreated bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections, as steroids can worsen these infections.

Can I cover the treated area with a bandage?

Only if your doctor tells you to – covering the area increases how much medicine is absorbed and the risk of side effects.
