Overview

Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet contains isosorbide dinitrate 10mg, a long-acting nitrate vasodilator used to prevent and treat angina (chest pain) caused by coronary artery disease.

Angina occurs when the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen-rich blood, often during exertion. Isosorbide dinitrate works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, particularly veins, which reduces the amount of blood returning to the heart and lowers the heart’s oxygen demand, while also modestly dilating the coronary arteries.

How it Works

Isosorbide dinitrate is converted in the body to nitric oxide, which relaxes vascular smooth muscle. This widens veins (reducing preload on the heart) and, to a lesser extent, arteries, easing the heart’s workload and reducing the frequency and severity of angina episodes.

Directions for Use

Take Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet exactly as scheduled by your doctor, usually before situations known to trigger angina (such as exertion). Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not stop this medicine suddenly, and sit down if you feel dizzy or light-headed after a dose.

Dosage

Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet dosing is individualised by your doctor based on the pattern and severity of your angina, typically taken several times daily with a nitrate-free interval each day to prevent tolerance from developing. Follow your doctor’s specific schedule rather than adjusting the timing yourself.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet used for?

Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet is used to prevent and treat angina (chest pain) caused by reduced blood flow to the heart in coronary artery disease.

Why do I get headaches after taking this medicine?

Headaches are a common and expected side effect caused by the widening of blood vessels, including those in the head. They often lessen as your body adjusts, but tell your doctor if they are severe or persistent.

Why can’t I take this medicine with erectile dysfunction medicines?

Combining nitrates like isosorbide dinitrate with PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil can cause a severe, potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure. Always tell any doctor prescribing you medicine that you are on a nitrate.

Why does my doctor want me to have a nitrate-free period each day?

Taking nitrates continuously without a break can lead to reduced effectiveness (tolerance) over time. A nitrate-free interval, usually overnight, helps maintain the medicine’s effect.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Apo-Isosorbide Dinitrate 10mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
