Overview

Apo-Levocarb 250/25mg Tablet is a prescription-only medicine (POM) that contains Levodopa 250mg and Carbidopa 25mg. It is supplied as a tablet and is dispensed in Malaysia only against a valid prescription issued by a registered doctor.

Under Malaysian rules for prescription medicines, this page carries product, safety and handling information only. Your doctor or pharmacist will explain whether this medicine is suitable for you, the dose you should take, and how long you should take it.

On DoctorOnCall, Apo-Levocarb 250/25mg Tablet is reviewed by a licensed doctor through an online consultation and dispensed by a registered pharmacist before delivery. Always follow the instructions on your prescription label and the package insert supplied with the product, and do not share this medicine with anyone else.

Directions for Use

Take Apo-Levocarb 250/25mg Tablet at consistent times each day as prescribed. High-protein meals can reduce levodopa absorption, so your doctor may advise taking it 30-60 minutes before meals or adjusting your protein intake timing. Do not stop or change the dose without medical advice.

Dosage

Apo-Levocarb 250/25mg Tablet dosing is highly individualised and adjusted by your neurologist based on your symptom control and response, often started at a lower dose and increased gradually, taken multiple times a day. The dosing schedule may need periodic fine-tuning as Parkinson’s disease progresses, so always follow your doctor’s current instructions.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

  • Suspicious, undiagnosed skin lesions (levodopa may theoretically activate melanoma) – inform your doctor of any skin changes

Drug / Food Interactions

  • High-protein meals can reduce and delay the absorption of levodopa, potentially affecting symptom control
  • MAOIs and certain antidepressants can cause dangerous interactions and are generally avoided
  • Antipsychotic medicines that block dopamine can reduce the effectiveness of this medicine and worsen Parkinson’s symptoms
  • Iron supplements can reduce levodopa absorption if taken at the same time – space doses apart

  • Discuss meal timing and protein intake with your doctor, as this can affect how well the medicine works
