Overview

Atazor-300 Capsule is a prescription-only medicine (POM) that contains Atazanavir 300mg (as atazanavir sulfate). It is supplied as a capsule and is dispensed in Malaysia only against a valid prescription issued by a registered doctor.

Under Malaysian rules for prescription medicines, this page carries product, safety and handling information only. Your doctor or pharmacist will explain whether this medicine is suitable for you, the dose you should take, and how long you should take it.

On DoctorOnCall, Atazor-300 Capsule is reviewed by a licensed doctor through an online consultation and dispensed by a registered pharmacist before delivery. Always follow the instructions on your prescription label and the package insert supplied with the product, and do not share this medicine with anyone else.

Directions for Use

Take Atazor-300 Capsule with food, as this improves absorption. Swallow the capsule whole with water, at the same time each day alongside your other antiretroviral medicines. Do not skip or stop any dose without consulting your HIV specialist, even if you feel well, as missed doses can lead to viral resistance.

Dosage

Atazor-300 Capsule is usually taken as 300mg once daily together with ritonavir 100mg once daily, or as part of the exact combination regimen prescribed by your HIV specialist. The dose and combination partners must never be changed without your specialist’s instruction, as consistent daily dosing is critical to keep the virus suppressed and prevent resistance.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to atazanavir or any ingredient in this product
  • Severe hepatic impairment
  • Concurrent use with certain drugs highly dependent on CYP3A4 clearance with a narrow therapeutic margin (e.g. simvastatin, lovastatin, certain ergot derivatives), rifampicin, or St John’s Wort
  • Pregnancy requires careful risk-benefit discussion with your HIV specialist

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Proton pump inhibitors significantly reduce atazanavir absorption and are generally avoided or require specific specialist-guided timing
  • Antacids and H2-blockers require careful spacing from your atazanavir dose, as directed by your HIV care team
  • Rifampicin and St John’s Wort substantially lower atazanavir levels, risking treatment failure
  • Simvastatin and lovastatin must not be combined due to a significantly increased risk of muscle toxicity

Quick Tips

  • Take every dose at the same time each day, always with food, without skipping doses
  • Inform your HIV care team of every other medicine, supplement, or herbal product before starting it
