Overview

Chlorop 1% Eye Ointment is an ointment with Chloramphenicol 1% w/w declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 5g.

This is a non-prescription product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Tilt the head back slightly, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and apply a thin strip of ointment (about 1 cm) into the pocket, avoiding contact between the tube tip and the eye or surrounding skin. Close the eye gently for a minute or two to let the ointment spread, and wipe away any excess with a clean tissue. Use the ointment at the frequency and for the duration advised on the packaging or by a pharmacist, and complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and children is a small strip of ointment applied into the affected eye(s) two to four times a day, or as directed by a pharmacist or doctor, typically continued for 5 days or until 48 hours after the eye appears normal. Do not use for longer than the recommended duration without medical advice, as prolonged use of chloramphenicol has been associated with rare but serious blood disorders.

Shelf Life

Chlorop 1% Eye Ointment should be used within the shelf-life date printed on the packaging when unopened. Once opened, an opened tube of eye ointment is generally recommended to be discarded after 28 days, even if product remains, to reduce the risk of contamination.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach and sight of children, and do not use the ointment if the tube tip has been contaminated or if the product has changed in colour or consistency.

Side Effects

  • Temporary stinging, burning, or itching sensation immediately after application
  • Transient blurred vision due to the ointment base coating the eye surface
  • Mild eye redness or irritation
  • Watery eyes or mild discomfort
  • Allergic reactions such as eyelid swelling or rash (uncommon)
  • Rare reports of serious blood disorders (such as aplastic anaemia) with prolonged or repeated use

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to chloramphenicol or any ingredient in the ointment
  • Personal or family history of blood disorders, including aplastic anaemia
  • Not recommended for use immediately before or after eye surgery without medical advice
  • Use with caution in premature infants and neonates due to limited safety data
  • Should not be used to self-treat eye pain, significant vision changes, or suspected foreign body injury without medical assessment

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Avoid using other eye medications at the same time without spacing them apart, as this may dilute or wash out the ointment
  • Contact lenses should not be worn during treatment as the ointment may affect the lens and prolong contact with the eye
  • No significant food interactions are expected with topical use
  • Inform your pharmacist of any other eye drops, ointments, or systemic antibiotics you are using

Quick Tips

  • Apply the ointment just before bedtime if used once daily, as it may cause temporary blurred vision
  • Do not touch the tube tip to the eye, fingers, or any surface to avoid contamination
  • Wash hands before and after application
  • Do not share your eye ointment with another person, even a family member with similar symptoms
  • Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or do not improve after a few days of use

How long will delivery take?

Within Malaysia, standard delivery takes 3 to 5 working days. Same-day delivery is available in the Klang Valley for orders placed before 12pm; orders placed after 12pm arrive by the end of the next day.

Orders to Singapore are sent as international deliveries and take 5 to 9 working days. A lump-sum shipping and handling fee applies to every overseas delivery and is shown at checkout.

What payment methods can I use?

Customers in Malaysia can pay by FPX online banking, credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), and supported e-wallets including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay and ShopeePay.

FPX and local e-wallets are tied to Malaysian bank and wallet accounts, so if your delivery address is in Singapore, use the payment options displayed at checkout for that address rather than assuming the same list applies.

Can Chlorop 1% Eye Ointment be delivered to Singapore?

Yes. DoctorOnCall ships to Singapore as an international order dispatched from Malaysia, arriving in 5 to 9 working days with a lump-sum shipping and handling fee.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.

Is Chlorop 1% Eye Ointment registered with the authorities?

Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.

An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.

Who do I contact if there is a problem with my order?

DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.

For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.
