Overview

Daflon 1000mg Tablet is a film-coated tablet made by Servier, supplied in Malaysia through Servier Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Each tablet contains 1000 mg of micronised purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF), made up of Diosmin 900 mg and flavonoids expressed as Hesperidin 100 mg. The micronised form is a refined preparation of plant-derived flavonoids and is presented as a single-ingredient tablet.

Daflon is also sold as a 500 mg tablet (Diosmin 450 mg and Hesperidin 50 mg), so the strength on the pack should always be checked against the dose that has been advised for you. Daflon 1000mg is supplied in packs of 10 or 30 tablets, and the pack size you receive depends on the product listing you choose. It is a medicine and not a food supplement.

Daflon 1000mg is supplied through pharmacies. The rules on how it may be supplied can differ from country to country, so please confirm with a pharmacist or doctor whether it is suitable for you and how it should be taken before you order. The product information advises that treatment should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation, and it should not be used by anyone allergic to any of its ingredients.

Directions for Use

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably with a meal.
  • Follow the regimen that your doctor or pharmacist has advised, or the directions printed on the pack insert.
  • The standard regimen is one tablet (1000 mg) once daily with a meal, preferably in the morning.
  • A short higher-dose regimen, when advised by a doctor or pharmacist, is up to 3 tablets daily in divided doses for the first 4 days, followed by 2 tablets daily in divided doses for the next 3 days.
  • Do not exceed 3 tablets (3000 mg) in 24 hours.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Dosage

Standard regimen: one Daflon 1000mg tablet (1000 mg) once daily, taken with a meal. Short higher-dose regimen, when advised by a doctor or pharmacist: up to 3 tablets a day in 3 divided doses for the first 4 days, then 2 tablets a day in 2 divided doses for the next 3 days. Do not exceed 3000 mg (3 tablets) in 24 hours. If a dose is missed, take the next dose with the next meal as normal; do not take a double dose. If symptoms do not settle promptly, or if they return, do not keep self-treating; please see a doctor for assessment.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the strip and outer carton. Do not use tablets that are past their expiry date or whose strip packaging is damaged.

Storage Instructions

Store as directed on the pack, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep the tablets in their original strip until use. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • No clinically significant drug interactions are described in the Malaysian product information reviewed, but please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all prescription, OTC and herbal products you take.
  • No specific food interactions are described; the tablet is usually taken with a meal.
  • Do not take other products containing diosmin, hesperidin or other flavonoid fractions at the same time unless a doctor or pharmacist has advised it, to avoid doubling the dose.

Quick Tips

  • Check the strength on the pack: this is the 1000 mg tablet (900 mg diosmin and 100 mg hesperidin), not the 500 mg tablet.
  • Take the tablet with a meal and swallow it whole with water.
  • Keep a note of the days and number of tablets taken if you are following a short higher-dose regimen.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding before taking it.
