Overview

Dermoplex Antifungal Cream is an Over-the-Counter (OTC) topical cream containing tolnaftate 1% w/w as its active ingredient. It is sold through DoctorOnCall, a licensed online pharmacy serving customers in Malaysia and Singapore, in a 15g tube.

Tolnaftate belongs to the thiocarbamate class of topical antifungal agents, distinct from azole-class antifungals (such as clotrimazole or miconazole) and from terbinafine-based creams. It is supplied as a smooth topical cream intended for external application to the skin.

Dermoplex Antifungal Cream is formulated for once or twice daily application over a defined treatment course, and the tube size and cream texture are designed for spreading over commonly affected areas such as the feet, groin, or body folds.

Directions for Use

  • Clean and dry the affected area of skin before applying.
  • Apply a thin layer to the affected area and the immediately surrounding skin, morning and night.
  • Continue treatment for at least one week after the skin appears to have cleared, unless otherwise directed, to reduce the chance of recurrence.
  • Wash hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated.

Dosage

Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily (morning and night) for adults and children, continuing for at least one to two weeks and for at least one week after visible symptoms have cleared, unless a doctor or pharmacist advises a different duration. Do not apply more than twice daily. If there is no improvement within 2 weeks of regular use, stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist, as a different antifungal agent or further assessment may be needed.

Shelf Life

Use before the expiry date printed on the tube and carton. Discard the product if its colour, texture, or smell changes noticeably.

Storage Instructions

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly capped after use, and keep out of reach and sight of children.

Side Effects

  • Mild skin irritation at the site of application
  • Dryness or peeling of the treated area
  • Stinging or burning sensation upon initial use
  • Allergic reactions such as rash or itching (rare)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to tolnaftate or any other ingredient in the formulation, including cetostearyl alcohol if present.
  • Do not apply to open wounds, broken skin, or the eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Not intended for nail or scalp fungal infections, which typically require a different treatment approach.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Not applicable for oral drug interactions, as this is a topical product not taken by mouth.
  • Avoid applying at the same time as other topical antifungal or medicated creams on the same area of skin unless advised by a pharmacist.
  • No food interactions apply to this topical cream.

Quick Tips

  • Keep the affected area clean and dry, especially between the toes or in skin folds, in addition to using this cream.
  • Apply consistently twice daily for the full recommended course, even if symptoms improve early.
  • Avoid sharing towels, socks, or footwear while treating a fungal skin infection.
  • Wash your hands after each application.
  • Allow the cream to absorb before covering the area with clothing or footwear.
  • Keep the tube tightly capped to prevent the cream from drying out between uses.
