Overview

Diflucan 50mg Capsule contains fluconazole 50mg, a triazole antifungal medicine used to treat candidiasis (a yeast infection commonly known as thrush) and a range of other fungal infections.

Fluconazole works by blocking an enzyme fungi need to build their cell membrane, weakening the fungal cell wall and stopping the fungus from growing and spreading.

How it Works

Fluconazole inhibits a fungal enzyme called lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, which fungi need to produce ergosterol, an essential component of their cell membrane. Without enough ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes unstable, stopping the fungus from growing.

Directions for Use

Take Diflucan 50mg Capsule with or without food, swallowing the capsule whole with a glass of water. If your doctor has prescribed a single dose, take it as directed; if a multi-day course has been prescribed, complete it fully even if your symptoms improve earlier.

Dosage

The dose of Diflucan 50mg Capsule depends on the type and location of the infection being treated – for example, uncomplicated vaginal thrush is sometimes treated with a single dose, while other infections may require a course over several days to weeks. Your doctor will determine the specific dose and duration appropriate for your infection.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

  • Complete the full course if a multi-day regimen has been prescribed, even if symptoms improve earlier

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Diflucan 50mg Capsule used for?

Diflucan 50mg Capsule is used to treat candidiasis (yeast infections), including vaginal thrush, oral thrush, and other fungal infections, as determined by your doctor.

Do I need to take this medicine for several days, or is one dose enough?

This depends on the infection being treated. Uncomplicated vaginal thrush is often treated with a single dose, but other infections may require a longer course. Follow your doctor’s specific instructions for your situation.

Can I take this medicine with my other prescriptions?

Fluconazole has significant interaction potential with many medicines, including warfarin, certain statins, and some diabetes medicines. Always review all your medicines with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

What symptoms of liver problems should I watch for?

Although uncommon, fluconazole can rarely cause liver problems. Watch for unusual tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine, and contact your doctor promptly if these occur.

Is single-dose fluconazole always used for vaginal thrush?

A single 150mg dose is a well-known regimen for uncomplicated vaginal thrush, but your doctor determines whether a single dose or a different regimen is appropriate based on the specific infection being treated.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Diflucan 50mg Capsule?

If you are on a multi-day course and miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose – do not double the dose. If you were prescribed a single dose and missed taking it, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
