Overview

Exoderil 1% Cream contains naftifine hydrochloride 1%, a topical allylamine antifungal medicine used to treat fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, such as athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), ringworm (tinea corporis), and jock itch (tinea cruris).

Naftifine works by inhibiting an enzyme called squalene epoxidase, which the fungus needs to build its cell membrane. This causes the fungal cell membrane to become defective and leads to fungal cell death, making naftifine fungicidal rather than simply fungistatic against most dermatophytes.

How it Works

Naftifine blocks squalene epoxidase, an enzyme fungi need to produce ergosterol, an essential component of their cell membrane. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes unstable and the fungus dies, clearing the infection when applied consistently for the full recommended duration.

Directions for Use

Clean and dry the affected area before applying Exoderil 1% Cream. Gently rub in a thin layer covering the affected skin and a small margin of the surrounding healthy skin. Wash your hands before and after application, unless the hands are the area being treated. Continue using this medicine for the full course recommended by your doctor, even after your symptoms improve, to help prevent the infection from returning.

Dosage

Apply a thin layer of Exoderil 1% Cream to the affected area and the surrounding skin once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor. Treatment is usually continued for two to four weeks, but your doctor will confirm the right duration for your specific infection.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Mild skin irritation at the site of application
  • Redness or dryness of the skin
  • Itching or burning sensation
  • Rash (rare)
  • Peeling of skin in treated areas

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to naftifine or other allylamine antifungals

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Avoid covering the treated area with airtight (occlusive) dressings unless specifically directed

Quick Tips

  • Keep the affected area clean and dry between applications
  • Continue treatment for the full recommended duration, even if your symptoms improve after a few days, to prevent the infection returning
  • Wash towels, socks, and clothing that come into contact with the infected area regularly and avoid sharing them
  • Avoid walking barefoot in communal areas such as locker rooms or showers if you have athlete’s foot
  • See your doctor if there is no improvement after the recommended treatment period

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Exoderil 1% Cream used for?

Exoderil 1% Cream is used to treat fungal skin infections caused by dermatophytes, such as athlete’s foot, ringworm, and jock itch.

How long do I need to use this cream for?

Treatment is usually continued for two to four weeks, but your doctor will confirm the exact duration for your infection – it is important to complete the full course even if symptoms improve earlier.

Why do I need to keep using it after my symptoms improve?

Stopping too early can allow surviving fungal spores to cause the infection to return. Completing the full recommended course helps ensure the infection is fully cleared.

Can I use this cream on my face or near my eyes?

No, this cream is not intended for use near the eyes, mouth, nose, or other mucous membranes. Ask your doctor for guidance if you have a fungal infection in a sensitive area.

Is it normal for my skin to sting a little after applying this?
