Foster 100/6mcg Pressurised Inhalation Solution

Foster 100/6mcg Pressurised Inhalation Solution contains beclometasone dipropionate 100mcg and formoterol fumarate 6mcg per actuation (Chiesi), delivered via a pressurised metered-dose inhaler (pMDI). It combines an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) with a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) for the regular maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), reducing airway inflammation and keeping the airways open.

Beclometasone reduces inflammation in the airways, while formoterol relaxes the smooth muscle around the airways by stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors, widening the airways within minutes and for up to about 12 hours. Foster 100/6mcg Pressurised Inhalation Solution uses Chiesi’s extrafine particle formulation, designed to reach further into the smaller airways of the lungs than standard particle-size inhalers.

Beclometasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid that reduces the release of inflammatory substances in the airway lining, decreasing swelling, mucus production, and airway sensitivity over time. Formoterol fumarate is a long-acting beta2-agonist that binds to beta2-receptors on airway smooth muscle, causing it to relax so the airways widen. Together, the two components both calm airway inflammation and keep the airways open between doses.

Foster 100/6mcg Pressurised Inhalation Solution is delivered using a pressurised metered-dose inhaler (pMDI), which requires you to coordinate pressing the canister with a slow, deep breath in. Shake the inhaler well before each use, breathe out gently away from the device, seal your lips around the mouthpiece, then press down on the canister once while breathing in slowly and deeply. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds before breathing out slowly. Using a spacer device can help if you find it difficult to coordinate actuation with your breath. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after use.

The usual dose of Foster 100/6mcg Pressurised Inhalation Solution is 1-2 inhalations twice daily, as prescribed by your doctor, who will adjust the number of inhalations based on your symptom control and lung function. Do not increase your dose on your own even if symptoms worsen – contact your doctor, as this may mean your treatment plan needs to be reviewed.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to beclometasone, formoterol, or any ingredient in this product
• Not to be used as a rescue/reliever inhaler for a sudden asthma attack or acute breathlessness – a separate fast-acting reliever inhaler should always be available
• Use with caution in patients with heart rhythm problems, uncontrolled heart disease, or thyrotoxicosis, due to the stimulant effects of formoterol

• Other beta2-agonist bronchodilators may increase the risk of tremor, palpitations, and low blood potassium if used together
• Beta-blocker medicines (including some eye drops) may reduce the effectiveness of formoterol and should generally be avoided
• Medicines that prolong the QT interval, or certain antidepressants/antipsychotics, may increase the risk of heart rhythm effects with formoterol
• Potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ritonavir, ketoconazole) may increase systemic exposure to beclometasone

• Always keep a separate fast-acting reliever inhaler with you for sudden symptoms – this inhaler is not for rapid relief
• Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every use to reduce the risk of oral thrush and hoarseness
• Use this inhaler regularly, even when you feel well, for it to control inflammation effectively
• Ask your pharmacist to review your inhaler technique periodically
• Do not stop this medicine suddenly without your doctor’s advice, even if your symptoms improve
