HOE Lusefi 2.5mg Tablet

HOE Lusefi 2.5mg Tablet contains luseogliflozin (as luseogliflozin hydrate) 2.5mg, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, in the same drug class as canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin.

Luseogliflozin works in the kidneys by blocking SGLT2, the transporter responsible for reabsorbing filtered glucose back into the bloodstream. Blocking this transporter causes excess glucose to be excreted in the urine (glycosuria), lowering blood glucose levels through a mechanism that is independent of insulin.

In healthy kidney function, glucose filtered by the kidneys is normally almost entirely reabsorbed back into the blood via SGLT2 transporters in the proximal renal tubule. Luseogliflozin selectively inhibits SGLT2, reducing this reabsorption so that excess glucose is instead excreted in the urine, lowering blood glucose levels.

Take HOE Lusefi 2.5mg Tablet once daily, at about the same time each day, with or without food. Continue to follow the diet and exercise plan recommended by your doctor, and monitor your blood glucose as advised, since this medicine works best alongside lifestyle measures.

The usual dose of HOE Lusefi 2.5mg Tablet is one tablet (2.5mg) taken once daily, generally in the morning, adjusted by your doctor based on your blood glucose control, kidney function, and other diabetes medicines you are taking. Do not change your dose without consulting your doctor.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Genital fungal (mycotic) infections, such as vulvovaginal candidiasis in women or balanitis in men, due to increased glucose in the urine
• Urinary tract infections
• Increased urination and thirst
• Dizziness or symptoms of low blood pressure, particularly on standing, related to fluid loss
• Serious: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual tiredness, or difficulty breathing may signal diabetic ketoacidosis (which can occur even with only mildly raised blood glucose with this drug class) – seek urgent medical attention if these occur

• Known hypersensitivity to luseogliflozin or any ingredient in this product
• Type 1 diabetes mellitus
• Diabetic ketoacidosis (current or history of)
• Severe renal impairment or end-stage kidney disease/dialysis
• Significant volume depletion/dehydration

• Diuretics (“water pills”): additive risk of volume depletion, dehydration, and low blood pressure when combined with luseogliflozin
• Insulin or sulfonylureas: combined use increases the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar); a dose adjustment of these other medicines may be needed
• Other antihypertensive medicines: may add to the blood-pressure-lowering effect, increasing the risk of dizziness or low blood pressure
• Alcohol: excessive intake may increase the risk of low blood sugar and dehydration

• Maintain good genital hygiene and seek prompt treatment for any genital itching, discharge, or discomfort
• Drink adequate fluids, especially in hot weather or if you are unwell, to reduce the risk of dehydration
• Watch for and report symptoms such as unusual tiredness, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, which may signal a rare but serious complication
• Continue monitoring your blood glucose as advised by your doctor, even though this medicine works via the kidneys rather than insulin
• Tell your doctor if you become unwell, are unable to eat or drink normally, or are due for surgery, as your doctor may advise temporarily stopping this medicine
