HOE Soluwax Ear Drops

HOE Soluwax Ear Drops is an over-the-counter (OTC) ear-care solution manufactured by HOE Pharmaceuticals Sdn Bhd. According to the manufacturer’s own product listing, the drops’ active ingredient is docusate sodium at a concentration of 0.5%, a surfactant-type ingredient commonly used in cerumenolytic (earwax-softening) ear preparations. It is sold in Malaysia without the need for a doctor’s prescription.

The product is supplied as a clear liquid solution in dropper bottles, available in 10ml and 100ml sizes. Docusate sodium works at the surface of hardened earwax to loosen its structure, making the wax easier to clear during a subsequent ear-cleaning procedure carried out by the user or a healthcare professional.

Soluwax Ear Drops are intended for short-term, occasional use rather than as a long-term daily ear-care product. Because the ear canal and eardrum are delicate structures, the drops should only be used according to the directions on the pack, and anyone with a history of ear problems should check with a pharmacist or doctor before use.

Tilt the head to one side so the affected ear faces upward, or lie down with the affected ear facing the ceiling. Instil the recommended number of drops into the ear canal, taking care not to let the dropper tip touch the ear. Keep the head tilted, or remain lying down, for a few minutes so the drops can settle onto the earwax. Use a clean tissue to wipe away any excess solution that runs out of the ear; do not insert cotton buds or other objects into the ear canal. Follow up with ear irrigation or cleaning as advised by a pharmacist or doctor if the softened wax does not clear on its own.

Use as directed on the product packaging or by a pharmacist or doctor, typically a small number of drops instilled into the affected ear once or twice daily for a limited number of days.

Do not exceed the frequency or duration stated on the pack. If the ear feels blocked, painful, or the drops do not seem to be helping after the recommended course, stop use and seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor rather than continuing to self-treat.

• Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
• Keep the bottle tightly closed after use and out of the reach of children.
• Do not use if the bottle is damaged, the seal is broken, or the solution looks cloudy or discoloured.

• Serious: Signs of an allergic reaction such as significant swelling, rash, or itching spreading beyond the ear.

• Known or suspected perforated (ruptured) eardrum.
• Ear discharge, active ear infection, or ear pain of unknown cause.
• Recent ear surgery, unless a doctor has confirmed the drops are safe to use.
• Known hypersensitivity to docusate sodium or any other ingredient in the solution.

• No clinically significant systemic drug or food interactions are expected, as the drops act locally in the ear canal with minimal absorption into the bloodstream.
• Avoid using other ear drops or ear preparations at the same time without checking with a pharmacist, to prevent unwanted interactions between products.
• Inform your pharmacist of any other ear medication you are using before starting this product.

• Warm the bottle slightly between your hands before use — cold drops instilled into the ear can feel uncomfortable.
• Use the dropper only; never insert cotton buds, hairpins, or other objects into the ear canal to remove wax.
• Keep the affected ear tilted upward for a few minutes after instilling the drops to give them time to work.
• Avoid using ear drops if you have ear pain, discharge, or a recent ear injury until you have checked with a pharmacist.
• If wax remains after the recommended course, ask a pharmacist about professional ear irrigation rather than continuing self-treatment indefinitely.

Docusate sodium ear drops are intended to soften hardened earwax before it is cleared, either naturally or with the help of a healthcare professional; they are not designed to treat ear infections or other ear conditions.
