Hovid Eretaf 20mg Orodispersible Films

Hovid Eretaf 20mg Orodispersible Films contains tadalafil 20mg in an orodispersible film (a thin film that dissolves on the tongue), a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. Tadalafil is known for its notably long duration of action compared with other PDE5 inhibitors, sometimes referred to as a “weekend pill”.

Tadalafil works by blocking the PDE5 enzyme, which allows a build-up of cyclic GMP in the penile blood vessels. This relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow into the penis, helping a man achieve and maintain an erection in response to sexual stimulation.

Sexual stimulation normally triggers release of nitric oxide in the penis, raising cyclic GMP levels and relaxing blood vessels to allow an erection. Tadalafil inhibits PDE5, the enzyme that breaks down cyclic GMP, prolonging this relaxation and improving blood flow into the penis so that an erection can be achieved and maintained with sexual stimulation. It has no effect without sexual arousal.

Place the Hovid Eretaf 20mg Orodispersible Films film on the tongue, where it dissolves within seconds without the need for water, then swallow. Do not chew or split the film. Sexual stimulation is still required for an erection to occur – this medicine does not cause an automatic erection. Do not take more than one dose in 24 hours unless your doctor has specifically advised a once-daily regimen.

The usual dose of Hovid Eretaf 20mg Orodispersible Films is one film taken as needed, at least 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity; because of its long duration of action it can remain effective for up to about 36 hours. Your doctor will determine whether an as-needed or lower once-daily regimen is more appropriate for you, and will individualise the dose based on your response and any other medical conditions.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to tadalafil or any ingredient in this product
• Concurrent use with any form of nitrate medicine (e.g. glyceryl trinitrate/GTN, isosorbide) or nitric oxide donors, including recreational “poppers” – the combination can cause a severe, life-threatening drop in blood pressure
• Severe cardiovascular disease where sexual activity is inadvisable, including recent heart attack, unstable angina, or severe uncontrolled heart failure
• Recent stroke
• Severe hepatic impairment

• Nitrates and nitric oxide donors must never be combined with tadalafil due to the risk of severe, life-threatening hypotension
• Alpha-blockers (e.g. tamsulosin, doxazosin, used for high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate) may cause an additive drop in blood pressure when combined – caution and dose spacing/adjustment is advised by your doctor
• Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, ritonavir) can increase tadalafil levels and side effects
• Excessive alcohol intake may increase the risk of dizziness or a drop in blood pressure

• Take at least 30 minutes before anticipated sexual activity for the best effect
• Never combine this medicine with nitrate medicines or recreational nitrite “poppers”
• Tell your doctor about any heart or blood pressure medicines you take, especially alpha-blockers
• Sexual stimulation is still needed for this medicine to work
• Seek emergency care for an erection lasting longer than 4 hours
• Limit alcohol intake, as it can increase the risk of dizziness or low blood pressure
