Hylo Dual Eye Drop

Hylo Dual Eye Drop is a preservative-free lubricating eye drop from the HYLO® eye care range manufactured by URSAPHARM (Germany), combining Sodium Hyaluronate (0.05%) with Ectoin in a single standard-strength formulation. It is supplied in a 10ml multi-dose bottle using the COMOD® delivery system, which dispenses each drop through a one-way valve that keeps the remaining solution sterile without chemical preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride.

The dual-action formulation pairs a moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid base with Ectoin, an extremolyte ingredient, in a standard-strength combination. It belongs to the class of lubricant/ocular surface protectant eye drops, sold Over-the-Counter (OTC) as an eye care product in Malaysia and can be purchased without needing a doctor’s prescription. It is preservative-free and phosphate-free.

Hylo Dual Eye Drop is the standard-strength formula in the Hylo Dual line, distinct from Hylo Dual Intense Eye Drop, which uses a four-times-higher hyaluronate concentration (0.2%) together with a higher ectoin strength, positioned for more pronounced or persistent dry eye discomfort. Hylo Dual (standard) is supplied in a 10ml bottle and is generally considered compatible with contact lens wear.

Wash hands before use. Tilt the head back slightly, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instil one drop into the affected eye(s). Avoid letting the bottle tip touch the eye, eyelid, or any other surface to keep the solution sterile. If using more than one type of eye drop, wait several minutes between products. If wearing contact lenses, this preservative-free formula is generally considered suitable for use with lenses in place, but check with an eye care professional if unsure.

The typical usage is 1 drop instilled into the affected eye(s), repeated as needed throughout the day; because this is a lubricant rather than a drug with a pharmacological ceiling, the manufacturer does not state a strict maximum daily frequency, but a pharmacist or eye care professional should be consulted if frequent use — more than several times a day — is not adequately managing discomfort. There is no “missed dose” concern given its as-needed use pattern. Seek medical review if eye discomfort persists beyond 2-3 days of regular use, worsens, or is accompanied by pain, vision changes, redness, or discharge.

Use before the expiry date printed on the carton. In line with standard HYLO® product guidance, the opened bottle should generally be discarded 6 months after first opening, even though it is preservative-free — always check the discard-by information printed on your specific pack.

Store below 25°C. Keep the bottle upright and tightly closed between uses. Do not use if the tamper-evident seal is broken or if the solution appears discoloured or cloudy. Keep out of reach of children.

• Common: Transient mild stinging or a sensation of the eye feeling slightly sticky immediately after instillation.
• Common: Brief, mild blurring of vision right after the drop is instilled.
• Serious: Signs of eye infection or an allergic reaction, such as significant redness, swelling, pain, or discharge — discontinue use and seek medical attention if these occur.

• Known hypersensitivity to sodium hyaluronate, ectoin, or any other listed ingredient.
• Not for injection, and not for use anywhere other than the eye.

• No systemic drug interactions are expected, as Hylo Dual acts locally on the eye surface with negligible systemic absorption.
• If using more than one type of eye drop or eye gel, space different products at least 5-10 minutes apart so that one does not wash out the other.
• No food interactions apply, as this is a topical eye product and is not taken orally.

Precautions: Hylo Dual (standard strength) is generally positioned for everyday dry, irritated, or allergy-prone eyes; for more pronounced or persistent dry eye with inflammatory symptoms, the higher-concentration Hylo Dual Intense Eye Drop may be more appropriate — check with a pharmacist if unsure which is suitable. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals and children may generally use lubricating eye drops of this type, but should check with a doctor or pharmacist first if there is any uncertainty. Remove contact lenses only if specifically advised, as the preservative-free formulation is generally considered contact-lens compatible.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek professional advice if eye discomfort, redness, or irritation does not improve after a few days of regular use, or if you notice vision changes, eye pain, or discharge, as these may indicate a condition that needs separate evaluation and treatment.
