Inderal 40mg Tablet

Inderal 40mg Tablet contains propranolol 40mg, a non-selective beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure, prevent migraine attacks, reduce essential tremor, and control the rapid heartbeat and physical tremor associated with anxiety, such as performance anxiety or stage fright. It is one of the older, most widely studied medicines in its class.

Propranolol works by blocking beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors throughout the body. Blocking beta-1 receptors in the heart slows the heart rate and reduces the force of its contractions, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the workload on the heart; its wider, non-selective blockade is also thought to contribute to its effects in migraine prevention, tremor, and situational anxiety symptoms.

Propranolol blocks both beta-1 receptors (mainly in the heart) and beta-2 receptors (mainly in blood vessels and the airways), without selectivity for one over the other. Blocking beta-1 receptors reduces heart rate, the force of heart contraction, and renin release from the kidneys, lowering blood pressure. This same broad receptor blockade reduces the physical symptoms of the body’s adrenaline response – such as a racing heart and tremor – which underlies its use in anxiety-related symptoms, tremor, and migraine prevention.

Take Inderal 40mg Tablet as directed by your doctor, generally with or without food but at consistent timing relative to meals if advised. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. If prescribed for an ongoing condition such as hypertension or migraine prevention, continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, and never stop suddenly without medical advice, as abrupt withdrawal can worsen heart-related symptoms.

The dose of Inderal 40mg Tablet depends on the condition being treated – for blood pressure and migraine prevention, your doctor may start at a lower dose and adjust gradually, while for situational anxiety symptoms a single dose may be taken before the triggering event as specifically directed. Your doctor will individualise your dose and should be consulted before any change, as this medicine should not be stopped abruptly.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to propranolol or any ingredient in this product
• Asthma or a history of significant bronchospasm (this non-selective beta-blocker can trigger airway narrowing)
• Severe bradycardia, second- or third-degree heart block without a pacemaker, or sick sinus syndrome
• Cardiogenic shock or uncontrolled heart failure
• Severe untreated low blood pressure

• Verapamil or diltiazem (certain calcium channel blockers) taken together with propranolol can cause dangerously slow heart rate or heart block
• Insulin and sulfonylurea diabetes medicines – propranolol can mask the warning symptoms of low blood sugar, such as a racing heart, making hypoglycaemia harder to detect
• NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen) may reduce the blood-pressure-lowering effect of propranolol
• Clonidine – stopping clonidine while taking a beta-blocker like propranolol can cause a dangerous rebound rise in blood pressure; any withdrawal must be supervised by your doctor

• Take this medicine consistently and never stop it suddenly without your doctor’s advice
• Tell your doctor if you have asthma, wheezing, or breathing difficulties before starting this medicine
• If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar closely, as this medicine can mask signs of hypoglycaemia
• Rise slowly from sitting or lying down to reduce dizziness
• If taken before a specific anxiety-provoking event, follow your doctor’s exact timing instructions
• Report a very slow pulse, fainting, or breathing difficulty to your doctor promptly
