Overview

Ixime 400mg Tablet contains cefixime 400mg, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and middle ear. It works against many common bacteria that cause these infections.

Cefixime kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with their ability to build a normal cell wall. Without a functioning cell wall, the bacteria become unstable and are destroyed, clearing the infection.

How it Works

Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins involved in building the bacterial cell wall, blocking the final steps of cell wall synthesis. This weakens the wall and causes the bacterial cell to rupture and die, a bactericidal effect against susceptible organisms.

Directions for Use

Take Ixime 400mg Tablet with or without food, at evenly spaced intervals as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Try to finish the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed, even after symptoms improve, to reduce the risk of the infection returning or bacteria becoming resistant.

Dosage

The usual dose of Ixime 400mg Tablet for adults is 400mg once daily, or given as 200mg twice daily, depending on the infection being treated. Your doctor will determine the correct dose, frequency, and duration of treatment based on the type and severity of your infection – always complete the full course even if you start to feel better.
