Overview

Kanarb 120mg Tablet contains fimasartan 120mg (as fimasartan potassium trihydrate), an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) manufactured by Boryung Pharmaceutical of South Korea. It is used to treat essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.

Fimasartan works by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor, preventing angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels, from exerting its blood-vessel-constricting and sodium-retaining effects. This allows blood vessels to relax and widen, which lowers blood pressure.

How it Works

Fimasartan selectively and competitively blocks the AT1 receptor subtype, preventing angiotensin II from binding and triggering vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated sodium and water retention. By blocking this pathway, blood vessels relax and blood pressure falls.

Directions for Use

Take Kanarb 120mg Tablet once daily, at about the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well, as blood pressure control needs to be continuous.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Kanarb 120mg Tablet for hypertension is 60mg once daily, which your doctor may increase up to 120mg once daily depending on your blood pressure response. Always take the exact dose prescribed and do not adjust it yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kanarb 120mg Tablet used for?

Kanarb 120mg Tablet contains fimasartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker used to treat high blood pressure (essential hypertension) in adults. Your doctor will confirm the specific reason it has been prescribed for you.

How is fimasartan different from other ARBs like losartan or valsartan?

Fimasartan belongs to the same drug class (angiotensin II receptor blockers) and works through the same AT1-receptor-blocking mechanism as losartan, valsartan, and similar medicines, but it is a distinct molecule with its own specific dosing (60-120mg once daily) – it should not be substituted at the same dose as other ARBs without your doctor’s guidance.

Can I stop taking this medicine if my blood pressure normalises?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and stopping suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise again.

Can I take this medicine if I am pregnant or planning pregnancy?

This medicine should not be used during pregnancy as it can harm the developing baby. Speak to your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Kanarb 120mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
