Overview

Ketotop Plaster contains Ketoprofen and is presented as a plaster. It is supplied in pack sizes of 7s x1 (Pack) and 7s x20.

It is classified as a non-prescription medicine, so no prescription is needed to order it. Under Malaysian rules for medicine information, this page carries product, safety and handling information only.

You can consult a doctor or pharmacist online on DoctorOnCall about this product before or after you order. Every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is delivered. Always read the label and the leaflet supplied with the pack.

Directions for Use

Clean and dry the affected area of skin before use. Remove the protective film and apply the plaster directly over the painful area, pressing down firmly to ensure good adhesion. Usually one plaster is applied once or twice daily as directed on the packaging, and the plaster should be left in place for the recommended duration before being replaced with a fresh one.

Dosage

Typically, one Ketotop Plaster is applied to the affected area once or twice a day, depending on the product strength and the severity of the pain, and should not be left on for longer than instructed on the packaging. Treatment is generally intended for short-term use, and if pain persists beyond 7 days or worsens, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Storage Instructions

Store Ketotop Plaster below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, keeping each plaster sealed in its individual sachet until ready for use. Keep out of the reach and sight of children and pets.

Side Effects

  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Skin rash or irritation (with topical use)
  • Drowsiness or tiredness

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs

  • Not to be used under airtight dressings or with exposure to direct sunlight on the treated area
  • Use in pregnancy, particularly the third trimester, should be avoided unless advised by a doctor

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Topical ketoprofen is absorbed in smaller amounts than oral NSAIDs, but interactions can still occur, particularly with prolonged use over large skin areas
  • Caution when used together with oral NSAIDs, aspirin, or anticoagulants such as warfarin, due to a potential additive effect on bleeding risk
  • Avoid applying other topical medicines to the same area at the same time unless advised by a pharmacist
  • Inform your pharmacist if you are taking oral NSAIDs or blood-thinning medication before starting treatment

Quick Tips

  • Wash hands after applying the plaster, unless the hands are the area being treated
  • Avoid direct sunlight or sunbed use on the treated skin area, both during use and for some time after removal, due to the risk of photosensitivity
  • Do not cover the plaster with an airtight bandage or dressing
  • Remove the plaster if skin irritation, itching, or a rash develops, and seek advice if it does not settle
  • Seek medical advice if pain persists beyond 7 days or worsens despite regular use

Relevant Information

Ketotop Plaster is used in Malaysia as a convenient over-the-counter option for localised musculoskeletal pain, offering targeted relief with generally lower systemic NSAID exposure than oral tablets. Older adults, individuals with a history of stomach ulcers, kidney disease, or asthma, and those using multiple medications should seek pharmacist or doctor advice before use, as topical NSAIDs are not entirely free of the systemic cautions that apply to oral NSAIDs.
