Overview

Kivexa Tablet contains Abacavir 600mg (as abacavir sulfate) and Lamivudine 300mg and is available as a tablet. It is classified as a prescription medicine and may only be obtained with a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

Only product, safety and handling information is published here. Anything beyond that is explained to you directly by your doctor or pharmacist as part of your consultation.

DoctorOnCall is a licensed online pharmacy. Orders for Kivexa Tablet are processed only after a doctor has assessed your suitability and issued a prescription, and every order is checked by a registered pharmacist before it is sent out.

Directions for Use

Take Kivexa Tablet once daily, at about the same time each day, with or without food, exactly as prescribed by your HIV specialist. Strict, consistent daily adherence is essential – missed or irregular doses increase the risk of the virus becoming resistant to treatment.

Dosage

The usual adult dose of Kivexa Tablet is one tablet once daily, taken as part of a combination antiretroviral regimen prescribed by your HIV specialist. Your doctor will determine your full regimen and monitor your response – never adjust the dose or regimen on your own.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to abacavir or lamivudine, or a positive HLA-B*5701 genetic test result (a strong predictor of serious abacavir hypersensitivity)
  • Previous suspected or confirmed abacavir hypersensitivity reaction of any severity – abacavir must never be restarted
  • Moderate to severe liver impairment

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other medicines containing lamivudine or abacavir (e.g. certain other combination antiretrovirals) must not be taken together with this product to avoid dosing duplication
  • Methadone levels may be reduced by abacavir, sometimes requiring a dose adjustment
  • Sorbitol-containing medicines or supplements may reduce lamivudine absorption if taken repeatedly at the same time
  • Always inform your HIV specialist of every other medicine, supplement, or over-the-counter product you are taking

Quick Tips

  • Ask your doctor about HLA-B*5701 testing before starting this medicine if you have not already been tested
  • Take this medicine every day, at the same time, without missing doses, to keep the virus suppressed and reduce resistance risk
  • Learn the symptoms of abacavir hypersensitivity (fever, rash, nausea, fatigue) and seek urgent care immediately if they occur
  • Never restart this medicine after a suspected hypersensitivity reaction, even if symptoms improved after stopping
  • Keep all scheduled HIV specialist appointments and blood tests to monitor your viral load and treatment response
