Overview

Klacid 500mg Tablet contains clarithromycin 500mg as a standard immediate-release tablet, manufactured by Abbott. It is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections in adults, including respiratory tract and skin/soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Clarithromycin binds to the bacterial ribosome and blocks bacterial protein synthesis, which stops susceptible bacteria from growing and multiplying, allowing the body’s immune system to clear the infection.

How it Works

Clarithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and stopping bacterial growth. This bacteriostatic (and, against some organisms, bactericidal) action allows the immune system to clear the remaining bacteria.

Directions for Use

Take Klacid 500mg Tablet with a glass of water, with or without food, at evenly spaced times about 12 hours apart to maintain steady drug levels. Swallow the tablet whole.

Dosage

The usual dose of Klacid 500mg Tablet for most infections is 250mg to 500mg twice daily, for a course length determined by your doctor according to the type and severity of infection. Always complete the full course exactly as instructed, even if you start to feel better.
