Krisovin 500mg Tablet

Krisovin 500mg Tablet contains griseofulvin 500mg, an oral antifungal medicine used to treat dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails, such as tinea corporis, tinea capitis, tinea pedis, and fungal nail infections, when these cannot be adequately treated with topical antifungal treatment alone.

Griseofulvin is deposited into newly forming keratin (the protein that makes up skin, hair, and nails) and disrupts the fungal cell’s internal skeleton (microtubules), preventing the fungus from dividing and spreading into new keratin as it grows. Old, infected keratin is then gradually shed and replaced by new, fungus-free tissue, which is why treatment must continue for a prolonged course.

After absorption, griseofulvin concentrates in the keratin precursor cells of the skin, hair follicles, and nail bed. Within the fungal cell, it binds to microtubule proteins and disrupts mitotic spindle formation, preventing the fungus from dividing. Because it only affects newly formed keratin, it takes time for infected, older keratin to be shed naturally and replaced by fungus-free tissue, which is why courses of treatment are often long, especially for nails and scalp.

Take Krisovin 500mg Tablet with a fatty meal (such as one containing milk, cheese, or oily food), as fat significantly improves how much griseofulvin is absorbed into the body, making the medicine more effective. Continue taking it for the full duration prescribed, even after your skin, hair, or nails appear to have improved, since clearing the fungus from keratin tissue takes time.

The usual dose of Krisovin 500mg Tablet for adults is 500mg once daily, though your doctor may prescribe a different dose depending on the site and severity of infection. Treatment duration varies considerably by the area affected – skin infections may need several weeks, while scalp and nail infections often require several months of continuous treatment. Always complete the full course prescribed, even if your skin looks improved, as stopping early can allow the infection to persist or return.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to griseofulvin
• Porphyria (griseofulvin can trigger an acute attack and must be avoided)
• Severe liver disease
• Pregnancy (griseofulvin can harm the developing baby and must not be used during pregnancy; effective contraception is recommended during treatment and for a period after finishing, as advised by your doctor)
• Systemic lupus erythematosus, or a history of the condition being worsened by griseofulvin

• Griseofulvin reduces the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives (the pill, patch, or ring) by speeding up their breakdown in the liver – use an additional non-hormonal method of contraception while taking griseofulvin and for some time afterwards, as advised by your doctor
• Warfarin’s blood-thinning effect may be reduced, so your doctor may need to increase your warfarin dose and monitor your INR more closely
• Alcohol may cause flushing, a fast heartbeat, or other unpleasant reactions when combined with griseofulvin
• Phenobarbital can reduce the absorption and blood levels of griseofulvin, potentially making it less effective

• Take each dose with a fatty meal to improve absorption and effectiveness
• Complete the full prescribed course, even for many weeks or months, as stopping early can allow the infection to return
• Use an additional non-hormonal contraceptive method if you rely on hormonal birth control, as griseofulvin reduces its effectiveness
• Limit sun exposure and use sun protection, as this medicine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight
• Avoid or limit alcohol during treatment
• Keep affected skin, scalp, or nail areas clean and dry to support recovery alongside the medicine
