Leukeran 2mg Tablet

Leukeran 2mg Tablet contains chlorambucil 2mg, an alkylating agent chemotherapy medicine used mainly to treat chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and certain other lymphoid malignancies such as lymphomas, and occasionally used at low doses for specific autoimmune conditions under specialist supervision. This is a cytotoxic cancer medicine that must only be prescribed and monitored by a haematologist or oncologist.

Chlorambucil works by damaging the DNA of rapidly dividing cells, including cancerous white blood cells, which prevents them from dividing and leads to their death. Because it affects rapidly dividing cells generally, it also affects normal bone marrow cells, which is why regular blood count monitoring is essential throughout treatment.

Chlorambucil is an alkylating agent that attaches alkyl groups to DNA, causing cross-links between DNA strands. This damages the genetic material of rapidly dividing cells, including malignant lymphocytes, preventing them from replicating and ultimately triggering cell death. This mechanism also affects healthy rapidly dividing cells, particularly in the bone marrow.

Take Leukeran 2mg Tablet exactly as instructed by your specialist, usually on an empty stomach. Because this is a cytotoxic medicine, avoid direct skin contact with the tablets, wash your hands thoroughly after handling them, and do not allow other household members (especially children or pregnant women) to handle this medicine. Follow your treating team’s specific instructions on handling and disposal.

Leukeran 2mg Tablet must only ever be taken exactly as prescribed by your haematologist or oncologist, who will calculate your dose based on your body weight or surface area, blood counts, and specific treatment protocol – dosing is highly individualised and regularly adjusted based on blood test results. Never adjust the dose or dosing schedule yourself under any circumstances.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to chlorambucil or any ingredient in this product
• Pregnancy (can cause serious harm to the developing baby) and breastfeeding
• Recent exposure to live vaccines, which should be avoided during chemotherapy
• Severe bone marrow suppression from previous chemotherapy or radiotherapy, unless specifically directed by your specialist

• Other chemotherapy agents or radiotherapy can increase bone marrow suppression when combined with chlorambucil
• Live vaccines should be avoided during and for a period after treatment due to a weakened immune response
• Other medicines that suppress the immune system may increase infection risk when combined with this treatment
• Always inform your specialist of every medicine, supplement, and vaccine before starting or during treatment

• Attend every scheduled blood test – regular monitoring of blood counts is essential during treatment
• Contact your specialist immediately if you develop a fever, signs of infection, or unusual bleeding/bruising
• Avoid contact with people who have infections, including colds and flu, as your immune system may be weakened
• Use effective contraception during and for a period after treatment, as advised by your specialist, due to fertility and pregnancy risks
• Do not take any new medicine, supplement, or vaccine without checking with your treating team first
• Handle tablets with care and wash your hands after contact, as this is a cytotoxic medicine
