For steam inhalation: dissolve a small amount (1 to 3 crystals) of Menthol Crystal into a bowl of hot water. Lean over the bowl with a towel draped over the head to trap the steam, close the eyes, and breathe in the vapour gently for several minutes, keeping a safe distance from the hot water to avoid scalding. Never let young children do this unsupervised or with water hot enough to burn.

For topical or aromatic use: dissolve a small amount of the crystals into a carrier oil (such as coconut or almond oil), an unscented cream or lotion base, or a diffuser, mixing thoroughly before use. Menthol Crystal must always be diluted first — it should never be rubbed directly onto bare skin, placed in the mouth, or used undiluted near the eyes or nostrils.

As Menthol Crystal is a raw ingredient rather than a swallowed medicine, there is no oral “dose.” For steam inhalation, a small amount — typically 1 to 3 crystals (roughly a pinch, about 0.1g to 0.3g) — dissolved into a bowl of hot (not boiling) water is usually sufficient, used up to 2 to 3 times a day as needed. For a DIY topical rub, a similarly small amount is dissolved into a carrier oil, cream, or lotion base before use; more is not better, as menthol is a strong irritant in concentrated form.

Important: Menthol Crystal must never be swallowed or taken by mouth, and must never be applied directly and undiluted to the skin, eyes, nose, or other mucous membranes. Doing so can cause chemical burns, severe irritation, or serious toxicity, particularly in young children.

Use Menthol Crystal before the expiry date printed on the packaging. As a concentrated, volatile crystal, it is best used within a reasonable time after opening, since prolonged exposure to air can cause the crystals to slowly evaporate (sublime) and lose potency.

Store Menthol Crystal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat, as the crystals sublime (evaporate) readily when exposed to warmth or left uncovered, reducing potency over time. Keep the container tightly sealed between uses to preserve strength and prevent moisture from getting in. As with all concentrated aromatic products, keep out of reach and sight of children.

• Common: Mild skin irritation, a tingling or burning sensation, or watery eyes if the vapour or a diluted preparation is used in a stronger-than-recommended concentration.
• Common: Mild throat or nasal irritation during steam inhalation if too much is used or the water is too hot.
• Serious: Chemical burns or skin damage if crystals are applied directly, undiluted, to the skin or mucous membranes.
• Serious: Severe poisoning or toxicity if swallowed or ingested — a medical emergency, especially in young children, that can include vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, tremors, or, in severe cases, severe neurological symptoms.

• Not for direct application, undiluted, to the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.
• Not for use on broken, irritated, or infected skin.
• Not for people with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to menthol or peppermint oil.

• When Menthol Crystal is diluted and used as directed for steam inhalation or topical application, no clinically significant drug or food interactions are established.
• Combining diluted menthol preparations with other menthol- or camphor-containing topical products (such as medicated chest rubs or muscle balms) at the same time may increase the risk of skin irritation from cumulative exposure, so this should be avoided.
• There is no known interaction with oral medicines when the crystals are used solely by inhalation or diluted topical application as intended, since it is not meant to be swallowed.

• Always dilute Menthol Crystal in hot water, a carrier oil, or a cream base before use — never use it undiluted.
• Use only a small amount (1 to 3 crystals) at a time; more is not more effective and increases the risk of irritation.
• Keep eyes closed during steam inhalation and maintain a safe distance from hot water to avoid burns.
• Store the crystals in a tightly sealed container to stop them evaporating and losing strength.
• Never let children handle or use the crystals unsupervised, and keep the container out of their reach.
• Stop use and rinse thoroughly with water if irritation, burning, or an allergic reaction occurs.
