Overview
Micosten 2% Cream is a cream with Miconazole nitrate 2% w/w declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 15g.
This is a non-prescription product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.
An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.
Directions for Use
Wash and thoroughly dry the affected area before applying. Apply a thin layer of Micosten 2% Cream to cover the affected skin and a small margin of surrounding healthy skin, then gently rub it in. Use twice daily, in the morning and evening, unless a doctor or pharmacist advises otherwise, and wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated. Continue using the cream for the full recommended duration even if the rash appears to clear up earlier, as stopping too soon can allow the infection to return.
Dosage
For most fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and jock itch, apply Micosten 2% Cream to the affected area twice a day for 2 to 4 weeks. For skin candidiasis, treatment is usually continued for around 2 to 3 weeks. It is advisable to keep applying the cream for a few days after the skin looks clear to reduce the chance of the infection coming back. If there is no improvement after 4 weeks of regular use, stop and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Shelf Life
Micosten 2% Cream is generally valid for up to the expiry date printed on the tube and outer carton when stored correctly and unopened. Always check the expiry date before use and do not use the product if it has expired. Once opened, it is good practice to use the cream within the period stated on the packaging and to discard any cream that has changed in colour, smell, or texture.
Storage Instructions
Store Micosten 2% Cream below 30°C, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed after use. Do not store in the bathroom or near a sink where humidity is high, and do not freeze. Keep this and all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
Side Effects
- Skin irritation or redness at the application site
- Itching or stinging sensation
- Dry or peeling skin
- Headache (for oral gel)
- Nausea (rare for oral use)
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity or allergy to miconazole, other imidazole antifungals, or any ingredient in the cream
- Not for use in or near the eyes
- Not intended for use inside the mouth or on mucous membranes unless a specific product for that purpose is used
- Use with caution on broken, weeping, or severely infected skin — seek pharmacist or doctor advice first
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- Not recommended for young infants without medical advice
Drug / Food Interactions
- Topical miconazole has minimal absorption into the bloodstream, so significant drug interactions are uncommon with normal use on small areas of skin
- Avoid applying other topical creams, ointments, or cosmetics on the same area at the same time unless advised by a pharmacist, as this may reduce effectiveness
- If used over large areas of skin or for prolonged periods, there is a theoretical risk of interaction with oral blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin — inform your pharmacist if you take these
- No significant food interactions are expected with topical use
Quick Tips
- Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before each application
- Apply consistently twice a day for the full recommended course, even if symptoms improve early
- Wear loose, breathable clothing over the treated area to help keep skin dry
- Avoid sharing towels, clothing, or footwear while you have an active fungal infection
- Wash hands before and after applying the cream (unless treating the hands)
- See a doctor or pharmacist if the rash worsens, spreads, or does not improve after 4 weeks

Relevant Information
Fungal skin infections are common in Malaysia’s warm, humid climate, especially in skin folds, between the toes, and areas that stay damp from sweating. Good hygiene, keeping skin dry, and wearing breathable fabrics can help prevent recurrence alongside treatment with Micosten 2% Cream. If the infection involves the scalp, nails, or a large area of the body, or if it does not respond to a full course of treatment, further assessment by a doctor may be needed as oral antifungal treatment could be required.

Customers in Malaysia can pay by FPX online banking, credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard), and supported e-wallets including Touch ‘n Go eWallet, GrabPay and ShopeePay.

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) allows personal imports of up to three months’ supply of a medicine for your own use or an immediate family member’s, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Keep the product in its original labelled packaging and keep a copy of your prescription or doctor’s letter with it. Quantities above three months’ supply, and medicines containing controlled substances, require prior HSA approval.
Products listed on DoctorOnCall are registered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health for supply in Malaysia, and each pack carries its MAL registration number.
An order delivered to Singapore arrives as a personal import of a Malaysia-registered product; HSA product registration is not required for personal-use quantities, but it is also not the same as a product registered for sale in Singapore. If you need a locally registered Singapore product, buy it from a pharmacy in Singapore.
DoctorOnCall’s customer care team handles order, delivery and product queries through the contact channels on the site, including WhatsApp and the online help centre.
For deliveries to Singapore, allow more time before chasing an order than you would for a local Malaysian delivery, as the parcel passes through customs clearance and tracking updates can appear later in the journey.
