Norditropin NordiFlex 10mg/1.5ml Pre-filled Pen contains somatropin 10mg/1.5ml, a recombinant human growth hormone identical in structure to the hormone naturally produced by the pituitary gland. It is prescribed by a specialist (usually an endocrinologist) to treat growth hormone deficiency and certain other growth disorders in children and adults, and must only ever be used under close specialist supervision.

Somatropin works by binding to growth hormone receptors throughout the body, most importantly stimulating the liver and other tissues to produce insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 is the key mediator of somatropin’s effects on bone and tissue growth, as well as its broader effects on protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Somatropin binds to growth hormone receptors in the liver and other tissues, triggering the production of IGF-1, which drives bone and cartilage growth in children and supports lean tissue mass, metabolism, and overall growth-hormone-dependent physiology in both children and adults with confirmed deficiency.

Norditropin NordiFlex 10mg/1.5ml Pre-filled Pen is given as a subcutaneous injection using the pre-filled NordiFlex pen, exactly as taught by your doctor or diabetes/endocrine nurse educator. Injection sites (such as the thigh or abdomen) should be rotated with each injection to reduce the risk of localised skin changes, and the correct injection technique is essential for both safety and effectiveness – never attempt to change the technique or device without retraining.

The dose of Norditropin NordiFlex 10mg/1.5ml Pre-filled Pen is highly individualised and determined solely by your treating endocrinologist based on your age, body weight, growth response, and IGF-1 levels on regular monitoring. This medicine must never be self-initiated, self-adjusted, or stopped without your specialist’s explicit instruction – dosing decisions require ongoing clinical assessment.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store in a refrigerator (2-8°C). Do not freeze. Keep the pen in its original carton to protect it from light, and store as directed by your pharmacist. Do not use if it has been frozen at any point.

• Redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site
• Headache
• Fluid retention, including mild swelling of the hands or feet
• Joint pain or muscle aches
• Serious: severe headache with visual disturbances or nausea (possible raised intracranial pressure), new limp or hip/knee pain in children (possible slipped capital femoral epiphysis), or unusual thirst/frequent urination (possible high blood sugar) require prompt medical review

• Known hypersensitivity to somatropin or any excipient in the pen
• Evidence of active malignancy (tumour) – growth hormone should not be started until anti-tumour treatment is complete
• Acute critical illness following complications of open-heart or abdominal surgery, multiple accidental trauma, or acute respiratory failure
• Closed epiphyses (growth plates), for indications aiming to promote height growth
• Active or suspected proliferative or severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy

• Oral corticosteroids (glucocorticoids) can inhibit the growth-promoting effect of somatropin – your specialist will monitor and adjust doses of both medicines together
• Oral oestrogen replacement therapy may reduce somatropin’s effectiveness, potentially requiring a somatropin dose adjustment
• Insulin and oral diabetes medicines may need dose adjustment, as somatropin can reduce insulin sensitivity and raise blood glucose
• Inform your endocrinologist of all other medicines you are taking, as somatropin can affect the metabolism of certain other drugs via cytochrome P450 enzymes

• Never self-adjust or stop your dose – all changes must be directed by your endocrinologist
• Rotate injection sites with every dose to protect your skin and underlying tissue
• Attend all scheduled follow-up visits and blood tests (including IGF-1 and glucose monitoring)
• Contact your specialist promptly if you notice a new limp, joint pain, or severe headache with vision changes
• Always store the pen refrigerated as instructed and check it has not been frozen before use
• Keep to your prescribed injection schedule as consistently as possible for the best growth/metabolic response
