Overview

Onbrez Breezhaler 300mcg Capsule is a prescription-only medicine (POM) presented as a capsule, with Indacaterol 300mcg (as indacaterol maleate), for inhalation use only as its active ingredient content.

This page is limited to product, safety and handling information, in line with Malaysian rules on prescription medicine information for the public. Your prescriber or pharmacist is the right source for anything beyond that, together with the leaflet inside the pack.

Through DoctorOnCall, this product is supplied after an online consultation with a licensed doctor and a valid prescription, and it is checked by a registered pharmacist before dispensing. Take it exactly as prescribed, and speak to your doctor before stopping, changing the dose, or starting any other medicine alongside it.

Directions for Use

These capsules must never be swallowed. Each capsule is loaded into the Breezhaler inhaler device provided, pierced by pressing the device’s side buttons once, and the medicine is then inhaled by breathing in quickly and deeply through the mouthpiece. Use a new capsule for each dose, taken directly from the blister strip immediately before use, and do not store capsules outside their blister packaging.

Dosage

The usual dose of Onbrez Breezhaler 300mcg Capsule is the contents of one 300mcg capsule inhaled once daily, using the Breezhaler device provided, at the same time each day. Do not use more than one capsule per day or use it more often than prescribed, and do not use it as a rescue treatment for sudden breathlessness.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Cough after inhalation
  • Throat irritation
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Runny or stuffy nose

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to indacaterol or any ingredient in this product
  • Asthma – Onbrez Breezhaler is indicated for COPD, and long-acting beta agonists used alone are not appropriate for asthma
  • Use as a rescue/reliever treatment for acute bronchospasm or a sudden asthma/COPD attack
  • Severe uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, including significant arrhythmias

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other beta-adrenergic medicines, including other bronchodilators, may add to indacaterol’s effects on the heart, such as increased heart rate
  • Beta-blocker medicines, including some eye drops for glaucoma, may reduce or block the effect of indacaterol and should generally be avoided unless there is a compelling reason for your doctor to prescribe both
  • Medicines that lower blood potassium, such as certain diuretics and corticosteroids, may increase the risk of low potassium levels when combined with indacaterol
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking, including other inhalers

Quick Tips

  • Never swallow the capsules – they must only be used with the Breezhaler device
  • Keep a fast-acting reliever inhaler on hand for sudden breathlessness, as this medicine is not for immediate symptom relief
  • Check that you can see or hear the capsule vibrate in the device chamber as you inhale, confirming the dose was taken correctly
  • Store capsules in their original blister strip and only remove one immediately before use
  • Seek urgent medical help if your breathing suddenly worsens after using this inhaler
  • Attend regular follow-up appointments to monitor your lung function and COPD control
