Overview

Oradex Antibacterial Mouthwash is a mouth rinse described by its name as antibacterial, intended for use as part of an oral hygiene routine. It is used for rinsing the mouth after brushing to help keep the mouth feeling clean and fresh. The active ingredient and its strength are shown on the pack and leaflet, and you should read these before use. Following the pack directions on amount, rinsing time and frequency helps you use it correctly.

Some people use an antibacterial mouthwash for a limited period on the advice of their dentist, for example around dental procedures or when brushing is difficult. Oradex Antibacterial Mouthwash is meant to support, not replace, brushing twice a day and cleaning between the teeth. Certain antibacterial mouthwash ingredients can be affected by toothpaste, so the pack may advise leaving a gap between brushing and rinsing. In Malaysia’s warm climate, store the bottle away from heat and direct sunlight.

If you have bleeding or swollen gums, a persistent bad taste, painful mouth ulcers or toothache, see a dentist or doctor for proper assessment rather than relying on a mouthwash. Some antibacterial mouthwashes can cause temporary staining of the teeth or tongue or a change in taste with regular use. Always spit out the rinse and do not swallow it. Keep the product out of reach of children.

Directions for Use

  • Read the pack and leaflet for the correct amount, rinsing time and frequency.
  • Measure the stated amount using the cap or a measuring cup.
  • Rinse thoroughly around the mouth for the time stated, then spit out; do not swallow.
  • If the pack advises, wait the stated time after brushing with toothpaste before rinsing.
  • Avoid eating or drinking straight after use if the pack recommends this.

Storage Instructions

  • Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Keep the cap tightly closed.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Side Effects

  • Oradex Antibacterial Mouthwash is generally well tolerated when used as directed.
  • Temporary staining of the teeth, tongue or dental fillings may occur with some antibacterial mouthwashes.
  • A temporary change in taste or a mild burning sensation in the mouth may be noticed.
  • Irritation or dryness of the mouth may occur in some people.
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, swelling of the lips or face, or difficulty breathing are rare but need urgent medical help.
  • Stop use and consult a doctor, dentist or pharmacist if irritation or any unusual effect persists.

Contraindications

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient listed on the pack.
  • Not for children below the age stated on the pack or who cannot reliably spit out a rinse.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: ask a doctor or pharmacist before use.
  • Not for prolonged use beyond the period stated on the pack unless advised by a dentist.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • No known food interactions, but tea, coffee and red wine may make staining more noticeable with some antibacterial mouthwashes.
  • Some toothpaste ingredients can reduce the effect of certain antibacterial rinses; follow the pack advice on timing after brushing.
  • Avoid using other medicated mouth rinses at the same time unless advised by your dentist or pharmacist.

Quick Tips

  • Check the active ingredient on the pack so you know exactly what you are using.
  • Rinse after brushing, leaving the gap advised on the pack.
  • Cut down on tea, coffee and smoking while using it to limit staining.
  • Book a dental check-up if gum or mouth symptoms continue.
  • Do not dilute or mix with other rinses unless the pack says so.

Relevant Information

For mouth rinsing only; do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children.

A mouthwash does not replace dental care. See a dentist or doctor for gum bleeding, swelling, mouth ulcers or toothache that does not settle.
