Overview

Ospexin 250mg/5ml Suspension contains cephalexin, a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic supplied as an oral liquid, used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in both adults and children who need a liquid dosage form, including infections of the respiratory tract, skin, and urinary tract.

Cephalexin works in a similar way to penicillin antibiotics, interfering with bacterial cell wall construction so that the bacteria weaken and die.

How it Works

Cephalexin binds to penicillin-binding proteins involved in the final cross-linking stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. This weakens the developing cell wall so that it can no longer withstand the bacterium’s internal pressure, causing the cell to rupture, particularly as the bacteria attempt to grow and divide.

Directions for Use

Shake the bottle well before every use to ensure the medicine is evenly mixed. Measure each dose accurately using the oral syringe or measuring cup provided – do not use a household spoon, as this can lead to an inaccurate dose. This suspension can be taken with or without food.

Dosage

The dose of Ospexin 250mg/5ml Suspension is calculated by your doctor based on body weight (for children) or the type and severity of infection (for adults), and is usually given in divided doses through the day. Complete the full course exactly as prescribed, even if symptoms improve before the course is finished.

Shelf Life

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Storage Instructions

Before reconstitution, store the powder for suspension below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Once mixed into a suspension by the pharmacist, keep the bottle in a refrigerator (do not freeze) and shake well before each use; check the pharmacy label or ask your pharmacist how many days the reconstituted suspension may be kept, and discard any unused portion after that period.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Give doses at evenly spaced intervals through the day, including overnight doses if prescribed
  • Note that once mixed, the suspension has a limited shelf life – check the label or ask your pharmacist how many days it can be kept after reconstitution
